To Help, To Heal
So far so good. I've been able to make it through the morning without feeling ill again. It's never common for people like me to fall ill for more than 24 hours."Hayley! Over here! Come sit with us," Evenstar shouts to me. She wants me to sit with her?
I smile as I walk over to her table.
"Where were you yesterday?" Lightning asks me.
"I was ill," I reply. "I don't know how it happened."
When Lightning and Evenstar start talking to themselves, I turn to look around the dining hall.
And I see someone staring at me.
She quickly turns around when our eyes meet.
Something's up. I know it.

I'm walking around the halls to my locker to grab some stuff, when I hear someone shouting and crying. I run towards the sound and see someone with a black eye, cuts all over her left arm, and bruises on her right arm.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"No," she says. "The popular girls stole my lunch money and punched the daylight out of me!"
I hold out my hand to her. "Squeeze my hand."
"What?" she asks.
"Trust me." And she does.
I close my eyes, and I can feel my energy travelling to her body. I let my other hand hover around the injuries, and she looks at me in awe.
Her cuts are closing.
Her black eye is disappearing.
Her bruises are fading.
I'm healing her!
"How did you..." she asks.
"It's in my blood," I quickly say. "And my power."
She hugs me really tight and says "Thank you!"
I smile as she walks away.
At least I know I'm well enough for my powers to work now.
The bell rings, and I make my way to my next lesson.
And my forehead starts hurting. I hold on to it as I clutch the nearest wall.
I feel weaker. My power is draining.
