Problem Solved
My heart jumped when I heard the scream. My first thought was that it was Atris or one of the other girls. It couldn’t be though! They had Shiny and Peter there to look after them. The scream sounded like Atris though, but it couldn’t be. I didn’t want it to be. I couldn’t believe it was her. I dropped what I was holding except for the sword and ran as fast as I could down the street. I was trailed close behind by the other two guys. When I reached the end of the street and veered around the corner, I did not believe what my eyes were telling me was there. It was Atris and Peter, backed against a fence, surrounded by about fifty infected. My heart jumped, and I almost froze in my place, unable to move or breathe. I was knocked from my horrific daze with Dale running into me, causing me to stumble.
I shook my head and charged at the infected in a blind fury, sword in hand. I swung my sword at the first unsuspecting victim of the horde who had been thrown astray in the chaos. It fell to the ground in an instant, and, without even a moment’s pause, I slashed at the next one; and the next. I was driven by an inner force, clawing at my insides and controlling my arms. My eyes burned with hate for these infected soulless things.
I heard a voice, but I could not make out who or what it was. Finally, my sword stopped. The hate left from my eyes. I heard what I thought was crying, and a gasping sound. I looked around, my mind finally coming into reality. Dead bodies laid on the asphalt around me, full of both wounds from my sword and bullets. I looked at my hand, the sword was still in it, but I couldn’t move it. My eyes followed the blade up to what was at the end of it. Dale.
His eyes gave me a cold stare and his lips spoke silent words that I couldn’t make out. Finally, his eyes unfocused and his pupils went wide. His lips stopped moving and were replaced with a half opened expression. I let go of the sword and stepped back frantically. Dale’s lifeless body fell stiffly to the ground, the sword still in it. Peter dropped his gun, and ran up to him with unbelief in his eyes. Atris stood there, silent; unmoving. She had a cold stare. She was not shocked, sad, or even a little dismayed. She just stood, staring.
I ran up to Peter, breathing hysterically. “What did I just do? What happened?”
He looked up slowly. “He tried to tell you to calm down, and you stabbed him.”
“I’m sorry,” I said solemnly.
“You just need to leave.”
I looked over at Atris who had grown a slight smirk of relief. “Come on. Let’s go get our stuff.”
“Are going back to the cabin?”
“No. Georgia.”
