Chapter 2.

Chapter 1

"Did you see the moon last night? It was epic! I had never seen it that color. I know, like, that we've all heard the legend a million times, but I didn't really believe it, did you?" A young Elf Owl chattered to her friend, a Barn Owl. The Barn Owl's eyes were strangely distant, as if looking into a world far away. In fact, the young owl didn't even notice her friends had asked a question.
"Carmen? Caaarmen!" The Elf Owl hopped up to Carmen and started shaking her wing.
"Huh!" Carmen came out of her daze, and her eyes refocused to see the face of her friend right in front of hers! "Agh!" She flapped her wings and stumbled backwards, tripping and falling onto her tail feathers. "Hey! I told you not to do that Wren!" Carmen grunted at Wren, who was on the ground laughing.
"Hah! Oh my... Bwah hah! By Glaux... That was hilarious! Hah hah hah! You were all like, 'agh!', and then you fell right on your tail feathers! Bwah hah hah hah!" Wren burst out, laughing so hard that she was crying!
"Hmph." Carmen stormed off, muttering about how she was already feeling bad and that had just made it worse.
But it was true. Ever since the Moon of Fire, which only appears once every year, well, she had been feeling, how do you say, tight in the gizzard. But it was only the beginning.

"Oh, welcome home Carmen!" Said an old female Snowy Owl. Carmen waddled towards the stony niche below a young fir where her foster mom and da lived. Carmen was adopted by the snowies after her parents were murdered by her aunt who had gone insane after being moon-blinked.
"Hi Glacier." Carmen replied. She flapped her wings and flew up to the small hollow in the tree and tucked herself into her nest.
"Carmen? Are you okay?" Carmen heard the voice of her foster da, Shard, from down below.
"Fine Shard, just tired."
"Okay, come down when you're hungry."
Carmen snuggled into the fluffy downy nest and fell into a deep, deep, sleep...
