Chapter 3.

The Beach

After we helped our new member of Club Horror settle in, we went back over to the other survivors. "DJ, you help her I'll help him." DJ nodded. His black hair shone in the sun as he inched closer to the girl. Carefully I dragged my ankle through the dunes to the boy. Smoothly, I ran my fingers through his hair. Something was wrong. I touched his skin, it was warm but not like usual. I sucked a breath in preparing myself for the worst. Pressing my fingers to his throat I waited to feel something. My own heart pounded throughout my entire body. Nothing. I pressed my ear to his chest and listened. Nothing. I looked to DJ  with horror in my eyes. But he didn't see me.

"What's wrong Cassi?" The other boy said staring into my eyes.

"Oh nothing, nothing..." I said for some reason I felt the need to protect him as if he were a child. DJ looked up to me.

"She's waking up." He said with a wide smile. He scooped her up. She was tiny, no more then 5'2. She had sandy hair that reached to her waist and was petite. She was very pretty but I could tell she wasn't going to be helpful. There was something wrong wether she hit her head too or is just giving up. DJ put her in the water. Almost immediately she started coughing and wheezing. DJ helped her open her eyes and she was completely unharmed except a few minor things. She walked over to the shade beneath the trees DJ tended her with a care that I didn't expect of him. They must've known each other before. I looked at the body before me.

"He's dead." The boy said matter-of-factly. I stared open-eyed at him then nodded slowly. "We should go. That's all we can do here." Then he saw my ankle. "I can fix that up for you." I stared at him astonished.

"How?" I croaked.

"My dad's a doctor. He taught me a lot." He said feeling my ankle. After half an hour he had completely wrapped up my ankle in a shirt from the dead boy and some sticks he found. "Now don't put too much pressure on it and remind me to rebind It often."

"Alright, thanks Doc!" I said laughing and admiring his work.

"That's my name!" Doc said smiling.
