Please Help With My Friend

Please Help With My Friend

I have a friend who recently developed quite serious depression and they've been my friend since year 2 -- and we've gone to different schools but we talk on text and her depression has gotten worse and we usually fight. Now i'm a pretty positive person, i try to see the happy side of life usually and i know how hard its gotten for her but she is making me feel really crappy about myself -- like I don't matter. For example: I got home one day and I just said, 'I have had a tough day, I woke up feeling like crap but my mum forced me to go to school anyway, now I feel awful but I just had to rant.' and she started going on about how selfish I was ._. it's like that with every little thing I say and I try not to be on messages now because I'm scared we'll start fighting again and I'll lose all my self esteem. But I still want to remain in contact with her, because I still enjoy regular chats we sometimes have and she's a childhood friend of mine. What should I do?

Everyday, tell her how much she means to you. Be honest, and try to comfort her and point out her positive points. Try to find more about her and just tell how much she is worth to the people around her, loved ones, etc.
But if she's blaming her depression on you, then you shouldn't really stick with her anymore, she's basically asking you to get out her life (you're not the one to blame if this scenario does occur)

Well I have major depression but I'll still put others in front of me, I think ur friend should do the same and you should help her but I don't suggest prying but if she starts treating u like crap find someone else before u become depressed to

I think you should help her with her problems first, then after talk about your own and if she cares as much as you do for her then everything will be fine and you can rant away
NeonTiger

If she's putting her problems over yours, then she's not a true friend. And this is coming from someone with depression.

k thanks, also good luck, i hope you overcome your depression

Thanks, but it's a mental illness. I can't "overcome" it. I'm stuck for life.
