Why do users usually think other people are attention-seekers?

-.- Honestly, it's kinda sad. Like one time, I told someone that my dad died(both this situation and the death was a few years ago) and they completely blew me off and said I was an attention-seeker! Like, WTF was wrong with that?! I was trying to look for comfort, NOT attention! Believe me, I was really grief-stricken that time and with that comment putting me down, I started cutting myself! -.- Seriously, why do people usually think that others are seeking attention? This is just plain sad.

1. They don't know how it feels. I'd like to see them have an awful experience and then someone laughing in THEIR face.
2. I'm so sorry about the loss of your father, he and you will be in my prayers ?
