This show is AMAZING for being overly censored by the Chinese government, with subtle women empowerment (Wen Qing being a badass who can defend herself, a side character straight up LEAVING her clan because everyone was being sexist, when she wasn’t wrong and leaving the way she did was HEAVILY looked down at, to Yanli being a good older sister and caring for her brothers to her DYING moment) and the gay subtext of Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian See More▼ (never having separate rooms but once, Wei constantly messing with LAN’s headband when “only s/os and children can touch it”, Lan basically being the only one to hear Wei out and try to keep him stable when Wei was going INSANE) it’s SO good

Why I enjoy this show:
Although it HEAVILY focuses on Wei Wuxian (WWX), you can see the other characters and how they develop as well. Also, wwx isn’t exactly the “hero”. Nobody is, as they are all arguably right in some way. It’s extremely realistic with emotions and character development. Everyone is a dark grey morally and I LOVE that. Characters do eventually change and you see that, some go towards white and others just get darker with their morals. You only find out See More▼ plot through the rumors until like,,, episodes 28-50 ish (not done so can’t confirm) and it’s realistic. While romance is implied it’s up to interpretation in the show and it’s done where it’s not a main focus and it’s not forced. Each character is very unique and well thought out, and attractive in some way.
What I don’t like:
The fucin MOVEMENTS are overly floaty and you can tell they’re not realistic. It feels a bit ugly with that. They T pose with every jump. Why.
WWX and LWJ DO have a relationship in the book (note that I haven’t read the book yet because it’s kinda innapropriate) and I want more than just subtext.
Makeup needs improving on, but the ideas are AMAZING in theory.
I don’t like finding out information through rumors and discussions for half the plot, I want to SEE that shit too.
So far every episode after 40 uses a skill called “Empathy” to explain the minor details of stuff heavily implied
It jumps around and you don’t get earned on that shit
There was an entire episode of just,, grieving on characters we saw in 50 minutes MAX.

Wei Wuxian: The main character who you watch be a bi disaster and become homicial. Happens to be terrified of dogs.
Jiang Yanli- Wei’s sister and she could do NOTHING wrong. I love her she’s so pure but she could hit me and I’d thank her.
Jiang Chen- Wei’s brother. He’s ok just ready to fight god
Jin Zixuan- He’s emotionally constipated and spoiled. Kinda feel bad but meh
Lan Wangji- No thoughts, head empty. In the book he becomes Wei’s husband, and can’t drink See More▼ (1) shot of alcohol before getting hammered. Barely speaks but I’d die for him.
Lan Xichen- biggest of the WeixLan shippers and LAN’s brother. Something off but that’s ok
Wen Qing- Medicine lady. Step on me. I LOVE her
Wen Ning- Qing’s brother, would ask you what color Pimk panther is and insist black
