I do like Shadaria, it's real cute. But what makes a couple cringey is what you choose to do with the couple. If the OC is OP, or a Mary-Sue, or you change the canon's personality (or in some couples, both), then yes, it can be cringey. But in the case of Shadaria, Maria is actually well done. As long as you keep Shadow's personality, it's a well-developed couple.
