Chapter 5.

How she had

Niall's P.O.V.
Everyone else had left and it was just me and Toni. I sat in the armchair facing her. Her hair was sprayed out on the pillow, her arm was under her and the other was next to her. Her legs were one on top of the other and she hugged them close to her chest. Her breathing was slow and steady. Every now and then she would move. She had the same small movements when she was shifting like she was just getting comfortable and drifting to sleep.
My thoughts ran wild of everything that had happened. I was so happy to see her that I forgot where I saw her, an orphanage. Then I saw the bruises up and down her arm. How could she cut herself like that? I get that life can be unfair at times but when I knew her she was so happy. It brought tears to my eyes just thinking about how she was so perfect. She never stopped smiling and if you got her laughing she would go forever. She was so insecure about herself unless it was sports, she could beat anyone at anything you challenged her to.
I looked down at her small hands. Her nails used to be painted. She once told me that on Sundays she would paint them. They were always different and unique. They weren't perfect but she did them herself so it was fine by me. Now her finger nails had nothing but dirt on them.
She used to wear cute clothes. She didn't have expensive clothes and she wasn't into fashion. She always loved to dress up. She always loved going to a book store. She would look around and point out the ones she had read. Most of the time when she did this she would have a ton of things to say about each and every one of them. She had unique view points on the characters. Her favorite was Harry Potter. She told me how one day she hoped to become an author. She wanted to have books in a store. She had told me how she would walk into a random store, pick up one of her books and sign it then slip it back on to the shelf so that the reader would be so surprised when he or she found it. She said she would write everything. She had a million ideas for books and had already started on a couple of them.
On bad days, her favorite thing to do was sit in her room and either watch a movie or write, sometimes both. She would put her phone somewhere that she couldn't reach or hear and she would forget about it. It always drove me crazy not being able to talk to her. A couple of those times I would walk to her house with her favorite candy, sour patch kids. We would have competitions to see who could catch the most in a row. That was the only thing I could beat her at.
During movies she would hug her legs to her chest. She was always cold so she had a blanket draped about her.
I also remember her first boyfriend. It lasted close to three months. In the beginning she was so happy with him but she started to realize how he wasn't the boyfriend she had always wanted. She wished for a guy to be a little old school. Open the door for her and stuff like that. She wished for him to hug her around her waist from behind or to pick her up any way possible. She wished for him to make her face things she wouldn't do alone, watch scary movies, face her fears, and be adventurous. She wanted a boyfriend who was more like her friend than anything else. I don't think she ever got that. I left for One Direction. It's been three years since I last saw her. She has obviously changed maybe even more than I have.
