Eye of the Storm

Eye of the Storm

A story of love, survival and inner strength. When Esme Moon is stranded on an island with eleven other teenagers after a failed plane crash, she's left helpless, but most certainly not alone. Leonardo, a man who she swears she's seen before grows close to her, forming unknown feelings. Life on the island proves tough, but what about the after affects once back home? I would recommend 13+ as it may contain mature themes not suited to all audiences, but hey I might just be overreacting so heed my warning and read if you think it's all g with you xx

Chapter 19

Daylight finally peaks over the horizon. I sit on my bed, huddled up in blankets, a confused mess. This sure was one wild way to get out of seeing my father. I hear a knock at my door.
“Come in,” mum walks in, sitting on the bed next to me.
“We’re going to visit Lorenzo, apparently he just woke up, would you like to join us?” Lorenzo is awake? I feel bad that I haven’t been thinking of him lately but I’m ecstatic that he’s awake. I nod quickly, throwing the blankets off myself. Finally, some good news.

It’s a short walk to the hospital, I still wish it was shorter. I need to talk to Lorenzo, make sure he’s ok. There’s so many people I need to talk to, Leo particularly… We walk up to Lorenzo’s room, knocking on the door.
“Come in,” we walk in to discover that Alexia has beat us there. Lorenzo lays in the bed, awake. I freeze, my heart turning to ice as I realise he still wears the same dead expression that he did on the island.
“Enzo!” I gasp, running up to him and grabbing his hand tightly.
“Hey…” his voice is rough.
“I’m so glad you’re ok!” I can’t help my excitement slipping off my words. He smiles a small smile.
“Me too,” Alexia holds his other hand. He laughs a little and that’s when I look deeper into his eyes. He’s not dead. He’s still fighting.
“I was worried about you, squirt,” Clare chuckles, coming down next to me. “No way was I losing my little baby cousin!” I smile a little.
“Three days, Clare. You were born three days before me,”

Lorenzo is going to have to stay admitted for longer than I’m comfortable with. His body is working against him, but it’s nothing fatal. It’s just him and I in the cold, domineering room.
“How’s Leonardo?” he asks, looking up at me. I sigh, shrugging. “Hey, listen, I know I should’ve told you about… that night,” my eyes widen quickly as my mouth gapes open. He knew too? “But all I really cared about was that Leo had saved you…” he squeezes my hand. “Now it’s your turn to save me… right?” Enzo was always a big brother figure, not just for me, but for everyone. A support beam, but now he’s been knocked down.
“Yeah, that’s right,” I smile at him, trying my best to seem ‘happy’. He rests his head gently on the pillow closing his eyes, slipping into a slumber. I try to run everyone’s names through my head.
Nic is fine.
Leonardo… I wish I knew.
Daniel is out of hospital but I don’t think he’ll be leaving his room for some time.
Alexia didn’t need too much care, along with Nic, she’s fine.
Emerald… I’m not sure. She won’t speak to me, still under the impression that I purposely ignored her because I thought she was weak.
Isla was also one of the lucky ones who came out without a scratch.
Charlie was flown back inland to be with her grandparents whilst she recovers. I guess that means in the orphanage Leo only has Nic and I don’t like to image how that’s going down.
