Chapter 5.

Ch. 5

I finish up the poltergeist job for a good friend of the family. I then begin toward Oregon, listening to the radio. To my delight "Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse comes on. I nod my head and party away, screaming the lyrics as I speed through the back roads with my windows down. A storm brews overhead, and I scream at the end of the song. I bow to myself before continuing my road trip in silence, besides the radio playing in the background. Thunder claps overhead and the radio turns to static. I frown and try flipping stations. It's all static so I flip it off.
It comes back on, a hissing kind of sound that reminds me of voices. I turn it up. They are demon voices. I slam on the breaks and grab a pen and receipt. I write down the Latin phrase they are repeating. I call Stan, but right before the third ring the dial tone rings. My phone has no service. I realize why when I see a white cloud coming. It begins to enter my car through the windows. I scream loudly. I grasp my necklace. Nothing happens. I realize it's an Archangel. The light is blinding, so I cover my eyes. Moments later a jolt of electricity runs through my body. I open my eyes and see a man sitting in my passenger seat.
"Who are you?" I demand, reaching for my silver knife.
"I'm Nathaniel, an Angel." I stare at him.
"Fair enough," I stare at him with confusion. "You're here why?" He chuckles menacingly.
"I'm your guardian angel." He shifts in the seat and puts his black booted feet up on my dash. I push his feet off.
"Angel or not, no one puts their feet on my baby's dash." He laughs, and I find myself laughing too. "What was with the... you know." I point to my ribs.
"I engraved your ribs with a symbol that will hide you from all angels but me." I stare at him with confusion. "I had to fight Castiel off because he was here to kill you. He made some deal with demons to tell where you were, on the condition you became dead."
"Why does Cas want me dead?" I question.
"Because my brother is an ass." I stare at Nathaniel for a long moment. "He thinks you cursed him because when you used your charm it wiped his memory of the demon. Like the demon's existence was wiped from a physical form, it was also wiped from anyone with direct connections from it." I nod.
"So you're here to protect me?" I question. He laughs. I smile sarcastically.
"No, I'm here to keep you alive in dire situations, but other than that, sit back and relax." I frown.
"Are all angels like you?" I ask.
"Pretty much. A select few are less asses than I, but you get the idea." He replies. I roll my eyes and continue to Oregon, blaring the CD Leftoverture by Kansas. By the time we reach actual civilization, we're both screaming lyrics and dancing in our seats. We ride into town with classical music playing, and straight faces with windblown hair.
When we get to a motel and check in, Nathaniel begins talking.
"Call me Nat, please." He says, bowing over my hand and kissing my knuckles.
"Nice try." I poke his stomach. A laugh escapes. "You aren't ticklish are you?" I push him onto one of the beds, climbing on him and tickling his sides lightly.
"NO!' He yells in between laughs. I continue tickling until we are no longer laughing but clapping like retarded seals. I groan and catch my breath, flopping onto my back next to him.
"I'm hungry." I complain.
"I think this is hunger." I laugh and jump up.
"Let's go get food, yeah?" He jumps up and follows me out the door. We run across the street to the gas station. I grab two subs, and he comes back with chips and sodas. We pay and head back to the motel. As we sit on the shabby couch, watching a cartoon station I realize that Nat is a very... very... good... looking... man...
