The Dead of the Dawn

The Dead of the Dawn

The roaring of the train passed as Marie stepped off of it. She clutched her coat tight to her body, hoping that it will give some kind of warmth. But the cold seeped into her skin. She was shivering like crazy. But she had to keep going. It was all she could hold on to.

Chapter 2.

Memory Loss

Yvette was the first person she dreamed of when she fell asleep for the first time at camp.

Sleeping on a mat gave her back pain. But it was the only thing Klaus could provide her for sleep.

In the dream Yvette was being taken away from her, scars and bruises on her face as she cried her heart out. Someone was trying to pull her back. Someone was tormenting with her mind. Until Yvette was killed was she screaming her name.

Her sister’s last words were cut with one last blow to her skull. She couldn’t hear her anymore, so she assumed she was gone. Her tears streamed down her face like a waterfall, and she fell to her knees.

She started chanting Yvette’s name like a prayer, but Marie’s name was the only thing that could be heard the all the ringing in her ears.

Marie!

Marie!

Marie!

"Marie!" Klaus’ voice cut through her skull, she woke up from the ringing, got up and hugged Klaus as tight as she could. He comforted her until she couldn’t take it anymore. Klaus would chase all her devils away if he could. It was also his duty to keep her happy. Even if he didn’t have the power to kill away the bad dreams. Comforting her was close enough.

She slowly pulled away and clinged to his uniform. She finally took in the position she was in. Her night dress was soaked with sweat and she had extreme bed head. Her red curls clung to her face from sweat. Her eyes were narrowed as she took everything in. She looked like she was in some sort of abandoned building, she didn’t remember anything but talking to Klaus the other day. She assumed she was still at the camp. But where were the other Nazis?

"Marie?" Klaus seemed to be asking a question. Either if she was alright or if she knew where the hell she was.

She didn’t remember escaping camp, she didn’t remember anything at all except that conversation with Klaus. After he swore to protect her, it was all she remembered.

"Marie, Marie, you’re shaking." Klaus said. He stroked her hair to calm her down.

"Marie, what’s wrong?" She looked up at him, her ragged breathing was the only thing that could be heard from the building.

"Where are we?"

Klaus laid her back down. He kept stroking her hair until her breathing calmed.

"We escaped, Marie. You’re here, and you’re okay."

Klaus had to be lying.

There was no way they could have escaped.

“What do you mean we escaped? Klaus what did you do?”

He was so confused and annoyed that it was even funny. He thinks this woman is probably suffering from memory loss or something.

Klaus sighed. “You hit your head and was knocked unconscious. That’s probably why you don’t remember anything.”

"We’re doing what?!"

"We’re escaping." Klaus said simply.

Marie started shaking. They were escaping?

"Marie. Its going to be fine. We’re going to get out of here with no problem."

But it was a problem. They were escaping. Surely someone would find out they were gone and-

"Marie." Klaus said. He laced his fingers with hers, and massaged the back of her hand. He then pulled her into a hug, rubbing her back.

She closed her eyes in a bliss. Somehow he just knew how to calm down her anxiety. She started to always shake since her family died. No one knew how to calm her down. She usually just thought if happy thoughts.

"Okay."

They got going. Her hands were in handcuffs, and he was leading her to the carriage were most people were carried to their deaths.

Obviously he wasn’t really going to kill her.

When they got there, she put on the best depressing expression she could pull off. Just for show though.

"Hey, you!"

A Nazi was walking towards them. Marie started shaking again.

"Where are you taking her, solider?" He asked.

"Just to the communal showers. She said she felt dirty." Klaus winked at the Nazi. Hopefully he would understand what he really meant.

"Okay, solider." He nodded to him. And saluted him.

He hoisted Marie into the carriage. Klaus got to the front of it and pulled the carriage into gear.

"Marie." he said.

"I’m sorry I have to do this."

That was all she heard before her collided with the side of the carriage.
