Chapter 3.

Chapter 3- Preparation

I sat on my bed. School supplies was scattered over the blanket. Pens, pencils, highlighters, and a small case to carry it all. I began to place each thing inside the case, neatly. "This is the worst.." I spoke to myself. My first day of high school was tomorrow. It was already about 10, so I was about to get to bed. I heard a small knock on my door just as I finished organizing my things, and my mom came in. She smiled sympathetically. "Nervous, Lynn?" She sat on the edge of my bed beside me. "Yeah.. Nobody ever likes me, mom. It'll be just like last year." I didn't like to think about middle school. It had been extremely hard after Tara left. Tara had been my only friend, the only one who ever bothered to speak to me, but her family moved after 5th grade. It was hard not to be mad at her for that, because it hurt. I know it's not her fault though, and we still text. "Baby.. don't think like that, ok? I love you, and anyone who doesn't has no idea what they're missing." She pulled me into a tight, suffocating hug. "Get some sleep now, big day tomorrow!" Mom seemed to perk up instantly. She walked out, closing the door behind her. I let out a loud sigh as I crawled into bed. Ugh. High school. BEEP BEEP BEEP!!! I scrambled to turn off my alarm. I watched my phone land softly on the rug. Oh no- It's today. My first day of high school. I stood up sleepily, and made my way to my closet. "Everybody in high school wants to make a good first impression. I just need to fit in. Nothing to bright.." I directed myself. I chose my pale grey, plain shirt, and light jeans. I slipped on my black hoodie as I left my room and entered the kitchen. Mom was already at work, I guessed. I glanced at the note on the table. 'Lynn, I know today is going to be a bit difficult. I love you, remember that. It's a big day for me, too, we'll get through it together.' I read. I forgot about mom's first day at her new job. She's teaching Kindergarten, as she did in L.A. I felt bad for stressing her out when she, too, had her own problems to worry about. I'd apologize after school. I glanced up at the clock. 8:30?! I was going to be late on my first day. Great. I grabbed my bag and phone and ran out the door. I walked to school to avoid the bus. The bus was horrible, in Los Angeles, at least. Same here, I guessed. Loud. Hot. Crowded. The school was huge- bigger than I expected as I jogged to the front doors. I stuffed my hands into my pockets walking in. Man, this place was big. Too big.
