Chapter 4.

Cast

Dear Diary,

I have a broken arm, and here's how it happened:
At recess, I told Ben that I knew he copies off of my tests and schoolwork in class. He said he was smarter than me and didn't even need to look, anyway. So I challenged him to a race across the parking lot. A lot of kids were crowding around to watch. We started the race, but I slipped and broke my arm. Mom picked me up and drove me to the hospital to get a cast. Then, we went home and I drank apple juice and watched TV. Luckily, I can still write - I broke my left arm, and I'm right handed.
When Dana came home from school this afternoon, she handed me a bunch of Get Well cards. The school nurse at my elementary school also works at her middle school, and when she went for her shift at Dana's school, she brought these cards that my class had made. There's one from every person in my class. Ben's card is a picture of me in a hospital bed with my arm ripped off. At the bottom, it says, "Hope you get better and don't die from an infection!" Mom said I won't die from an infection, but I'm still worried.
Mr. Anderson's card includes a sheet of today's homework and a note asking me to come to school tomorrow. At the end of the note, he wrote, "Get well soon, and next time, remember that the parking lot is OFF LIMITS! You have detention tomorrow."
