Chapter 5, A Monster Released

Dawn and Fuzz were talking outside Dawn's home. Then Dawn saw the first dream again. The ground trembled and houses shook on their foundations.

Then Fuzz cut in, "Run everything's falling!"

Dawn suddenly realized it was real. Fuzz was running ahead to where the tree would fall. The tree groaned and started leaning.

"Run,the tree's falling!" Dawn yelled just a second to late.

Fuzz had almost gotten past the spot when, just like the dream, a branch fell on him. Then the tree completely hid Fuzz from view. Dawn wasn't sure what happened next, because she was pushed over by something.

The sun was setting when Dawn woke. She wondered why she had been sleeping outside. Then she remembered what had happened. She leaped up immediately.

"Fuzz, are you okay!" she called.

A moaning sound came from the other side of the fallen tree. Dawn walked around the tree.

She was frightened by what she saw. Dawn knew Fuzz wouldn't be able to walk ever again.

"Oh Fuzz, you're hurt," said Dawn worriedly. "I'll find help I promise."

   Fuzz only moaned in reply.

Dawn tried to think of who could help. She went to all the neighbors houses, but it seemed they had already run away. Then as a last try she looked for Dusk.

Dusk was rummaging in the alleys, like normal.

"Dusk we need help," yelled Dawn,"A branch fell on Fuzz, and he can't walk!"

Dusk turned around and ran past quicker than Dawn thought possible. Dawn followed trying to catch up. When she caught up Dusk was already dragging the branch off Fuzz.

"Dawn we need some sort of shelter," said Dusk.

"I'll see if my owner's house is still safe," replied Dawn.

Dawn walked into the eerily silent house cautiously. The floor creaked but stayed stable. The bag of cat food had fallen over and spilled out. Some other things had fallen and broken. Other than that it seemed safe, so she walked outside.

"It safe at least, if a little creepy," Dawn told Dusk.

"It'll have to do for now," Dusk responded.

After a week the h mans had still not returned. Fuzz really needed help, but there wasn't much either she-cat could do to help him.

"Dawn, why I feel I've been in a spot like this before?" Dusk asked one day.

"I don't know, but I feel the same way," Dawn said. "How much longer can Fuzz go without better help?"

"Only a couple days longer," Dusk whispered quietly. "And after that there'll be nothing anyone could do."

"Oh," Dawn then fell silent. "So we can't do anything..."

Dusk simply shook her head. Then Dusk left, presumably to hunt.

A week later Dawn thought she couldn't go on.
