Chapter 3.
In her shadow

In her shadow

300 years later.

Luna was now older, a 'young adult'. However, she was about 405, it didn't really matter. her hair was the same colour when she was little, however a bit longer. Same with her tail, though the hairstyles didn't change. She looked exactly the same as her younger self, just taller. Today was a special day. It's been a hundred years today since her and Celestia ruled over Equestria. Even though Luna is only 405, Celestia 519 no one really cared. This celebration was mostly based off of their parents. The ponies of Canterlot were having a celebration this afternoon. They would run down into the Everfree and to Celestia's and Luna's castle. The Castle of the Two Sisters. Also known as the COTTS. Luna couldn't wait! She's always wanted to do this, it's her and Celestia's first time. Celestia was excited too, taking hours to get prepared. Luna didn't really care what she looked like, but Celestia insisted that she must look her best. The sun princess brushed Luna's short hair thoroughly, Luna whining. "Hush, Luna! Stop whining, it's not the end of the world!" Celestia said, poking her younger sister with the hairbrush playfully. Luna rolled her eyes, giggling.
After hours of preparation, it was time to how their faces to the crowd outside. Celestia and Luna walked onto the main balcony of the castle, their wings spread wide. They both smiled and walked to the end of the balcony. Everyone in the crowd cheered as they waved. However, when Luna looked into the crowd, many ponies had signs saying "We love you Celestia!", "Woot Celestia!" and other things like that. Luna ignored it and pretended to not care. Deep down, she did. After a few minutes waving to the crowd, the two sisters walked back into the castle, guards closing the doors behind them.

Celestia's POV:
Being the Princess of the Sun and co-ruler of Equestria sure is fun, even though hardworking. The best part of being the princess is the appreciation you get for being one, for looking over Equestria! Luna and I love this sort of thing. I sure do! I hope she does too..

Throughout that celebration, Luna felt like she was in her sister's shadow. Celestia is pretty much famous, a massive celebrity. Luna just felt like one of those one-offs. Luna walked into her room and shook her head, trying to get rid of those horrid thoughts. She stared into her mirror, looking at herself. "Of course I'm not, loads of people love me. Celestia loves me!" She said to herself, placing her hooves on the dressing table. She turned her head away from the mirror and looked out of her window. Down below were a load of ponies, cheering. She couldn't hear them, but many were mouthing the name, "Celestia". The sun was starting to set. The night princess quickly noticed that Celestia was on her balcony, setting the sun. Luna gasped and rushed out onto her balcony. She quickly used her magic to raise the moon, closing her eyes and sighing deeply.

It was midnight the world was silent and still. Everypony was asleep, even Celestia. However, Luna couldn't. She sat on her balcony, staring up at the big, beautiful and bright moon. "Now the hour has come at last, the soft and fading light. Has crossed the west horizon and has bidden us goodnight. And what a lovely night it is to walk a moonlit field. To see the softer shades that are by starlight now revealed.." She sang, spreading her wings and flying off the balcony, into the ground below. She landed on the cold grass and closed her wings. "So why is it that now, when all is quite and at rest. The candles glow and all the world is at it's very best. The ponies of Equestria, should lock themselves away. To shun the moon and wait instead for sister's sunny day.."
The young night princess slowly started to walk, looking at the beautiful night time that everyone seems to hate.
"Am I so wrong to wish that they would see things like I do? And am I so wrong to think that they might love me too.." Luna started to sing harsher, her soft voice turning darker. "Why shouldn't they adore me? Is it not within my right? I'll not be overshadowed, mine is not the lesser light!" She sang, spreading her wings wide and looked up at her moon. "I've waited long enough now for them all to come around. And though the sun may plead and threaten, the moon will stand her ground!" She growled lightly, the bitterness in her voice growing completely, stomping her right fore hoof against the cold grass.
"Now will know the wonder, of my dark and jeweled sky! When all the world is wrapped in an eternal lullaby! So say goodnight! To this, the final setting of the sun! Tomorrow dawn's in darkness, the night time has...begun!" Luna shouted, laughing crazily. She then stopped, shaking her head violently.
"What..what am I thinking..?" She asked herself, placing her hooves on her head. "Why..why would I think that..?" She quickly spread her wings and flew back to her balcony before rushing into her room and locking herself in there.
