Chapter 1

Distantkit and Silverkit played happily in the nursery. It was sunhigh, and their mother, Cherrycrunch, was watching them play. Their father, Foxsnap, entered the nursery with a thrush in his russet-colored jaws.
"Is that thrush?" Cherrycrunch touched noses with her mate and pointed at the plump piece of prey with her slim tail.
"Yes, just for you." Foxsnap placed the thrush at the tortoiseshell she-cat's paws.
"Thank you, Foxsnap." Cherrycrunch started to eat her favorite prey in hungry bites.
"Our kits are getting so big!" The russet tom nuzzled both she-kits and sat down by the queen. "Especially Silverkit. She's firstborn, correct?"
"Correct. Distantkit is a bit small for being three moons old, but she'll grow."
"She'll be my little she-cat when she's older. She'll be small, but her rare fur is beautiful."
Foxsnap was right, considering Distantkit's fur was a variety of light gray, gray, dark gray, white, and black. Her fur was dappled and striped, and her eyes were a beautiful blue color, and her fur was fluffy, silky, and soft. Foxsnap and Cherrycruch talked more before Foxsnap was called to go on a hunting patrol.
"Come on, kits. It's time for a nap." Cherrycrunch stopped her kits and moved them closer to her.
"But we don't want to." Distantkit mewed indignantly, crawling under her mothers' tail.
"But you have to." The tortoiseshell she-cat trapped Distantkit, scooting her toward her white belly.
Distantkit waved her tail around. She immediately saw into her mothers' thoughts. "What is going on?" She thought.
        "Distantkit!"
"Distantkit!" Her name was repeated a few times. Her vision blackened, at she was back in the nursery.
"I called your name multiple times. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, mother. I'll go to sleep."
