Chapter 3

(The picture is Mellissa with her swords)

"Welcome everyone! As you know three of you will be leaving us today, for a good cause!" our leader announces. I look at Aria. She is sweating so much she could fill up our dried up dam. Whilst she is a nervous wreck I am calm and collected. I will not get chosen, I will not get chosen. I keep reassuring myself that.
"So, lets get started!" "If I call your name please walk up to me," His assistant wheels a big barrel filled with names up to him. His assistant whispers something in his ear. "Oh it seems all of the adult names have gone missing, children it's your lucky day," Aria looks like she's about to faint. "The first person is.... Mellissa Woodberry!"
"NOOO MELLISSA!!" I look around to see an old woman holding Mellissa's arm.
"Grandmother! Let go!" She orders. The old women releases her arm and starts crying.
"MY BABY!!!" Mellissa is one year younger than me, fifteen.
"Next is.... Arabelle Smithon,"
"No" I murmur. "Oh please no,"
"Belle!" Aria gushes. I walk up to the leader, I feel as white as a sheet of paper and my insides feel like jelly. I look at the crowd around me.
"Ok the last person is..... Uki Marygold," I look at Uki. He has brown hair and black eyes. I glance and Mellissa, Mellissa is an elf, she has long brown hair and wide green eyes.
"Well we have our three, Mellissa, Arabelle and Uki, you may all go home now!" He turns to us. "Come with me, I shall give you all the equipment you need," The three of us follow him to a big tool shed. He opens the door to reveal all the supplies you could ever ask for. "Uki you shall carry this satchel, It contains all the food you'll need, also you will have this bow and this quiver with twelve arrows," He hands him the satchel, bow and quiver. "Arabelle, as our best archer you shall also have one bow and a dozen arrows," He hands me another bow and quiver. "Mellissa as an elf you can have these two swords and this water jug," He hands her the swords and the jug. "Good luck!"
