City
*On the Outskirts of the City*
They made it to the large city that looked nothing like Sage would have ever imagined; it like something that she had seen in the movie ‘I am Legend’, everything seemed deserted and run-down. But the most disturbing part about it was that you didn’t see anyone.
“What happened here?” she asked concerned of her surroundings.
“Well after, well you know Sonic went crazy he wanted to be alone probably because he attacked Tails. I think part of him couldn’t live with it so he wanted to be all by himself. So he kind of just attacked anyone who got near him; he went to the city and began destroying it and next thing you know everyone left.”
Sage looked around at her surroundings and was memorized by the sheer size of the buildings and how odd they looked without windows and covered in vegetation.
“By the way, why did you come with me?” she asked wondering why the echidna would leave his post at the Master Emerald Shrine.
“I need to get a few things so I figured that I might as well come along anyways.” He answered which seemed like an excuse to her for some reason. They continued walking through the empty city sometimes climbing over fallen debris or crawling under collapsed bridges and during the whole time they didn’t speak a word until they walked past an abandoned clothing store.
“Um, can we go in there for a second?” she asked implying to her attire. And after contemplating he went into the building with her. Clothing was everywhere, but some seemed to be in order so she began looking for a new outfit even though she had no idea what size she would wear in this universe. After about ten minutes she rounded up a matching garb and saw Knuckles trying on different hats in the background so she went to the dressing room while he was distracted.
She had just finished dressing in her ebony and azure apparel she heard a commotion in the room next to hers so she froze and tried to listen. All she heard was muffled talking until the voices stopped and the next thing she knew she had a teal aurora surrounding her body and she found that she couldn’t move a muscle. Then she watched as her dressing room door was opened to reveal two familiar hedgehogs.
“See, I told you there was somebody else in here; she was probably spying on us.” The silver hedgehog said to the other and then got close up, “Who do you work for?” She tried to answer but could move her mouth to do so; the other hedgehog that she recognized all too well and was wondering how and why he was here put a hand on Silver’s shoulder and he spoke behind a scarf. “Apparently she can’t speak like this, Silver.” He released his hold on her but still remained watchful.
“I don’t work for anybody, just me and someone else is here to get some clothing that’s all.” She was finally able to answer.
“See, I knew she was no harm.” Said the teal and black hedgehog, “I could sense it when she walked in.” It was weird hearing Mephiles talk and not seeing any movement underneath that scarf he was wearing. And why is he with Silver anyways? Isn’t he one of the bad guys? Or could I have been right about being in an alternative universe? Sage thought. Then Knuckles came back in to the dressing room area to find the three Mobians staring back at him.
“What are you two idiots doing here?” he asked when he realized who everyone was.
“Haha, real funny but we call to get Mephiles a new scarf.” Silver pointed out.
“Now the real question is…what are you doing here?” Mephiles asked as he walked towards Knuckles in a creepy manner.
So Knuckles and Sage explained to the hedgehog duo how they got to where they are now and why as they exited the clothing store.“There’s another thing I forgot to mention…” Sage began and everyone put their attention on her. “I have a friend that is being held by Eggman and I need to get him so he can go back home; he doesn’t belong in a place like this, he wasn’t even supposed to have came but…” her voice drifted away with the last few words of the sentence while the listeners took in what they had just heard. And then it looked like as if a light bulb went off in Silver’s head.
“I know how we can find Eggman, there’s only one person that has an emerald locator.” He stated with a triumphed grin; then it seemed to have clicked with everyone else.
“Well,” said Knuckles “let’s go find Tails.”
So they set off to find their twin tailed friend and Sage wondered, how badly he was hurt when Sonic attacked him and if it left any emotional scars or possibly even physical ones. She had plenty of time to think about all that has happened in less than one day and it seemed unreal that these guys really existed; but she followed Silver and Mephiles who mostly lead the way since they knew where Tails resided at, as her and Knuckles were behind them. Sage or Hannah in short terms, was never a really outgoing person so she didn’t really say much on the hour trek across the demolished city.
“Hey guys, over here!” called Silver from on top of a collapsed concrete wall.
Everyone flocked over to where the silver hedgehog was and saw a subway tunnel that led deep underground into what seemed like nothingness.
“Is this the way that leads to Tails location?” asked Sage curiously.
“Yep, this is the only way.” Answered Silver and hopped down into the darkness immediately disappearing. Then a faint teal glow could be seen about nine meters below and Silver yelled up, “Come on, who’s next?”
With that Knuckles jumped and glided down and landed a few feet from Silver; the n Mephiles disappeared into a puddle of darkness and reappeared on the floor behind Knuckles. Now it was her turn, she lowered herself so that she was sitting on the edge but she couldn’t force herself to jump.
“Come on Sage, I’ll catch you!” called Silver and his hands illuminated even brighter as if signaling that he was ready to move into action. Sage took a deep breath and cleared her mind and slipped off the edge and fell towards the rock floor and she closed her eyes shut but her falling slowed and she softly landed on her feet on solid ground. She looked around and saw that she was safe and sound then let out a sigh of relief. Then they headed in the darkness with Silver, of course, leading the way as he rest tagged along not wanting to get left behind in the maze of tunnels.
*30 minutes later*
After walking for what seemed like hours they arrived at an abandoned subway station and climbed up on the station’s platform. Some of the lights were flickering and some didn’t even work at all as Silver walked up the stair leading up unto the streets but instead of an opening leading out they saw a nose to a large plane jutting inwards towards them. Knuckles climbed up unto the nose and into the where the windshield would be and stepped in the piloting area; and the rest followed. Mephiles opened the door the lead into a large room that was cluttered with tons of equipment and papers and everything else you could possibly think of. Then, towards the back you could spot an old metal work table with tools and gadgets laid un top it and a certain yellow fox asleep with a wrench in his hand.
“Hey Tails.” Knuckles said when he walked other to the kitsune and nudged his shoulder and when he looked up the sight almost made Sage gasp. Tails had a robotized arm and an eye patch over his right eye.
