You shake your head at your Mum,"I'll clean them twice tonight okay?"
Then dash out the door.
It's the right decision. When you get to the bus stop, the bus is already there, & you surely would have missed it otherwise. You climb on board & show the driver your ticket, his only response a grunt, then step to the side and look down the isle. There are only two empty seats.
The first is beside Jeff Millerstone; a burly year eleven who spends his lunches harassing younger students or sneaking off campus to do who knows what. Basically, a bully and general asshole.
The other is beside Tom Xanthos; an unpopular boy for no reason other than the stench that follows him everywhere.
You want to stand up. But the bus driver isn't aloud to drive anywhere unless all the passengers are seated and belted, and you can tell that if you stand here much longer he'll yell at you. So...
