Confusion

Jackie Hart is a thirteen year old who lives in a small apartment, has a single mother, and only has one form of entertainment: Her tablet. But a device as simple as that can't help everything. Chapter 4.
Far Away

Far Away

Jackie bounced in her seat on the way home. Her mom was explaining how they fixed her ear. It turned out that her ear drum just needed to be shifted, and then get a shot.
When they got to their apartment, Jackie sat on her mattress and hit 'Play' on her music. Nothing had ever sounded more beautiful then the violin concerto that entered her mind at that second. Jackie found herself weeping with joy at the noise. Her mother sat beside her, reading a book.
Jackie heard the doorbell ring and she looked at her tablet screen to see where to pause it. Carefully, she paused her music and rushed down to answer the door. To her utter astonishment, it was Kyle Walters, the hottest guy in the entire middle school. With his chiseled cheeks, caramel hair, and muscular arms, how could he not be cute?
Jackie's hand on the doorknob began sweating. Her heart rate sped up. She swallowed before smiling and greeting him. "Um, uh, hi... Kyle!" Jackie stammered. Kyle gave a warm grin as he stepped into her house. "How are you, Jackie?" Kyle asked. Jackie's cheeks grew warm. Before she could answer, Kyle cleared his throat. "I'm hear to tell you something new."
Jackie's blood felt as if it was molten gold, coursing through her body at what felt like the speed of light. "W-what?"
Kyle looked at his feet. "Well... I know how you've been feeling about me, y'know. But... well, I'm... a couple with... Rose."
Jackie's mouth fell open. Rose - her best friend? The one who had always said that she had no interest in dating? The only one she'd ever told about her crush? Tears pooled in Jackie's eyes as she whispered, "Oh." Kyle nodded curtly and stepped out of the house. Jackie raised her eyebrows. "Wait! You- you can stay, y'know."
Kyle just mumbled, "Well, um, I think I gotta go. Homework, y'know."
Jackie watched as Kyle broke into a run, far away from her house, far away from the formerly deaf kid, far away from her bleeding heart.
