Chapter 2.

Rokka - Part 1

*Lyric's POV*
____________

"Listen up!"
We all stop talking, and turn round. On the top floor, with her hands gripping at the supporting rails, stands a woman with short, blonde hair. Her glasses are incredibly shiny, or maybe that's to do with the lighting in this room. She wears a white blouse, covered by a dark blue jacket, and a light blue scarf. She also wears a dark blue skirt that flows down to her knees, and... are those grey or brown tights? I can't tell.
Her jewellery is what stands out the most to me. Long, dangling earrings of silver and blue, and a beautiful necklace with a blue raindrop jewel. I wish I could afford jewellery like that - it's my ideal jewellery. Something I always wish to obtain.
"My name is Tsubasa Katagiri. I am the manager and producer of AKB0048."
All the other girls start to mutter in excitement. The woman responsible for the success of our favourite idol band. The woman who turns ordinary teenage girls like us, into famous young women with incredible voices...
This woman is the woman who made AKB the amazing success it is today.
"Firstly, I want to congratulate you all on your progress to the second audition. Over the next ten days, we shall place you in supervised lessons, to prepare you for this audition. This year, your assigned song shall be..."
Oh, that's right! Every year, trainees are assigned one song from 0048's large variety. Nobody knows what they have to do, though. At least, nobody except those who are the actual candidates. All my research into AKB that lead me to this moment, will it pay off?
"Beginner."
Beginner? That's my favourite song! The lyrics even have a powerful meaning behind it. When translated, it talks about trying to become a new you, building your strength, changing your actions... and when you do, you become someone else - a beginner, for something new.
"However..."
All the muttering falls into silence at that word.
"This shall be no ordinary audition."
Eep.

What the hell?!
All our lessons have been is physical combat against robots, anti-gravitational control, and target practice (with REAL guns!). Is THIS what an idol goes through? The way these lessons are done? Is this what they do every day? What we're going through now? It's crazy!
After our third target practice lesson, Tsubasa calls us for a meeting.
"We realise we've left you in the dark about this audition." On the screen behind her, a picture of a planet shows. "In 10 days, AKB will be performing a guerrilla concert on this planet. Meanwhile, all of you will be protecting them from any DES soldiers who try to invade."
WHAT?!
"I told you a successful performance is the key to passing this audition. In the concert, Beginner will be the last song. You must protect the concert until that song finishes. That, is your audition."
Oh my God, I'm not going to pass this...
Am I?

*Orine's POV*
______________

I watch as the girls all competing to be the 79th Generation Trainees walk into the cafeteria. Already, they have cuts, bruises, scars. It was only two years ago that I endured that brutal audition with my friends - Chieri, Yuka, and Nagisa. Since we passed, Chieri has become the trainee's Centre Nova, and Nagisa is said to soon become the next Acchan. She has the personality and appearance of an Acchan, and an amazing glow, which was proved when we attempted to take back Akibastar when the DES robots took over.
As for Yuka and I, we still remain understudies with the 76th Generation.
Among the candidates is a girl named Lyric. She is a really nice girl, just like me. She came to sit with me on the candidates' first day here. When I got to know her, I helped her with her training. She's such a nice person.
"How are you, Lyric? How is it going?"
She looks at me, and manages a smile. "Tiring."
"Just keep eating," I say. "It gives you the strength you need."
She nods, and tucks in to a delicious steak with full fat butter melting on top of it. I remember when I first had to eat this. I was on a diet. It wasn't good for my body, but I managed in the end.
I hope Lyric passes the audition.
