Chapter 4.

chapter four - blurred lines ;;

I blinked open my cerulean eyes, a frown upon my maw. The sun shed it's golden light down and the birds were singing ; it was morning. And it was time for me to escape my monotonous life. But first, I had to say goodbye to my housefolk, the ones that had cared for me and loved me unconditionally all my life. So I thumped up the padded steps and slipped past the door. Once inside the bedroom, I hopped up onto the cream-colored bed and pressed myself against the tom-human, purring. He reached out tiredly and ruffled the gray fur upon my head, chuckling. After giving him a gentle lick on the hand, I shuffled over to the she-human and rubbed my head against her shoulder, heart aching. So this was goodbye. Without another look, I lunged off the bed and dashed downstairs, skidding to a halt outside the living room. As usual, the large main window was agape. I gingerly climbed upon the brown leather couch and onto the windowsill, enjoying a cool breeze that softly blew against my face. It was time. With a single glance back at the kitchen, the stairs, the dining room, I took a breath and jumped. With a thud, I landed in the patch of daisies in our garden. After a moment, I gathered my wits again, and began walking towards the fence.
"Melody? Is that you?"
I heard the now familiar voice call hesitantly from the the side of the fence, and I replied, "Yes?"
There was happiness laced in with the tom's next words. "So you're coming?"I grinned and crouched down, jumping atop the fence.
"Yep."
Cedarpaw was smiling now as well, excitement shining in his emerald green eyes. He gave a little hop. "C'mon, I'll show you the way!"
After a moment's hesitation, I landed on the other side of the fence for the first time. The grass felt unnaturally long as it tickled my gray legs. Cedarpaw, who was a few feet ahead of me, turned, cocking his head. "You coming?" He meowed. I responded with a slight nod and hurried over to his side. "Lead the way."
