Chapter 5.

I'm Just Another Freak

The girl tried texting another message. It was after school. She had gotten her phone back.

Why wasn't he responding?

Each time it said that 'the mesaage undeliverable' or 'person not online'.

Was Gee that mad?!

What was he talking about earlier?

"What the HECK were you THINKING?!"

His voice rang out as if he has spoken directly in her ears.

Like in real life.

She jumped and looked around wildly. No one was there.

Great, she was going crazy.

Her fingers slid over the screen of her phone.

"R u okay?" -Helena

This time, she just got a voicemail. Not another notification saying he wasn't online.

She clicked it, warily.

"No... I'm not okay. I promise. "

Her eyes widened. Oh lord have mercy, what was he doing?!

She grabbed her old black BVB jacket and ran out of the front door. Her parents were gonna be at work for another three hours.

She'd be fine.

Her footsteps echoed down the street as she ran; her feet thudding against the pavement.

She could see the familar house now. It WAS only a block away.

She got up the front steps around 45 seconds later, panting. Her parents always said she needed protein from meat, but they were killing off innocent animals... cows and pigs and chickens. The lot of them. It was disguisting.

She wearily knocked on the front door.

"Hello?"

The door opened. It was Mrs. Way, or as she liked to call her, Donna. It was her actual name, Donna. Kind of 50s vintage cool.

"Oh, hi, Helena! Did you come to see Gerard? He's in the basement with those friends of his. And Mikey of course."

She was cool, maybe because of the casual awkwardness that came so naturally to the girl. She didn't really care, she was cool either way.

Donna let her in. "Thanks, ma'am", the girl said, stepping inside the house. Donna smiled and went to the kitchen, where the smell of beef was filling the air. Blech. Not that it smelled bad, but remember,  ethics of vegetarian.

She opened the door to the basement and started walking down the stone steps. Sounds of taking and laughing, probably at something insane Frank was doing, filled her eardrums.

She called out softly, but no one heard.

"H-hello?"

She spoke in her normal voice this time.

The talk stopped.

"Okay, bro, you get to answer the door."

Footsteps headed for the door were heard.

A few seconds later, Mikey in all of his slightly adorable nerdy glory opened the door.

She smiled nervously. "Hi."

"WHO IS IT?!"

"GEEZ, Frank stop being loud!!"

"SHUT UP!"

The sounds of a... pillow fight, she thought?!

Heh, this was gonna be crazy.
