Time For The Ball

"So how did you get it?" We were at my house and Mandz was curling my hair for me. "Get what?" My throat was dry as I thought about that thing on my neck. What was it? I've never been near alcohol except for the occasional champagne at New Year or Christmas, so I couldn't have been drunk and done it. "Welll..." I hesitated. "It's on of those things that come off when you wash it."

She pouted, looking disappointed as she finished the final curl of my hair. "Shame, it looks so believable." I gave an awkward shrug. "So, give me a twirl." She grinned. I stood up in my mad hatter outfit and stared in the mirror. Wow, I looked amazing. Me and Mandy wanted to look unique and different when we got there, not the usual princess ball gowns that everyone would be wearing. The outfit was amasing and funky and so was Mandy's in her poker queen dress.

I fluffed up my hair and reached for some powder, dabbing it at that tattoo-thing on me neck. Mandy stared at me funny. "Why do you want to cover it?" She took out a baby wipe and reached for my neck. "B-because, um, it says Marcus and well, Jerry." Scrunching up her nose, she tutted at me. "Not that what you said made sense, but..."

She lunged towards me and I gave out a shriek before running down the stairs. "REECE SWANSON!" She yelled after me as she chased me. Laughing, I attempted to retreat down the stairs but she caught up with me and we both bounced down the stairs, having fits of laughter.

We rolled down the stairs, our hair starting to look like a birds nest. Staring down at us, my mum rose an eyebrow. "Yes, no wonder you chose Mad Hatter, Reece." Mandy gave out a snort from behind me. God, I hate it when she gets smart on me. "Are you going to make me take pictures?"

Mum shook her head. "Looking like that? No, I don't want to break the camera lenses." But she was joking and disappeared into the living room for a camera. "You're mum is well funny." I rolled my eyes, attempting to fix my curls. "Only when she's being rude to me."

We spent a full 20 minutes posing and pouting and winking. It was 6 O'clock. Time to go. Excited, my mum bustled me and Mandy into her car and we were on our way. Excitement bubbled inside of me and I focused onto the window, trying to calm my nerves. Jerry said he wanted to meet me at the local park first, so mum was dropping us off there. What did he want?

Soon, though, a burning sensation erupted into my neck and a strong urge to scratch that spot on my neck where the magical mystery lay. My hands twitched and I found them scratching that spot vigorously, like my life depended on it. As soon as the powder wore off, everything felt normal again. Frowning, I turned around to see if anyone saw my mini fit. Nope.
