Chapter 3.
Gitters

Gitters

Age is an issue of mind over mater. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

School's over now and everything seems like it's the way it's supposed to be. It's just 3 weeks before my birthday and i'm moving during this week.
I'm excited about turning 14, i really am. I can finally get to open my granddad's box. My granddad was apparently the bravest man there ever was back in the day. Unfortunately, he died shortly after i was born. No one really tells me how he died. Every time i bring up the subject with my aunt she just say,"You shouldn't fly into the darkness if you know you're not strong enough to face whats inside."

Nothing can possibly ruin the mood i'm in today

10:00 PM

Oh my gosh, i'm freaking out. Where's my aunt? Should i have left? Is it too late to go back?
I said all these things to myself as i was walking back and forth, panicking. It all happened so fast.

There i was, sleeping, trying to make time move faster. I was just about to fall asleep when i heard an alarm go off. At first i thought that it was the fire alarm because it's pretty much the only alarm i have in my house. That was until my aunt came running in my room telling me to pack the things i needed, in a back pack. I wasn't really that scared, i should have been. I remember the terrified look on my aunt's face. A part of me knew that something bad was about to happen but another part of me didn't want anything to go wrong, not now, when everything was about to be so perfect.

I grabbed my granddad's box and put it in my bag. My aunt told me to go up to the roof, heights are not really my thing. I didn't really understand why she was telling me to go on the roof but there was no time to ask questions, i had to go up on the roof quick. I made it up 5 flights of stairs. I was out of breathe by the time i went up the stairs but my aunt was right behind me, encouraging me to keep going. When we got to the roof, i demanded an explanation from my aunt.

"We're under attack, and there's no time to explain whats going on." she says

The roof was freezing cold and it was windy.

"No, i'm tired of you explaining things to me with metaphors i don't understand or not saying anything at all!"

Suddenly a huge glow comes from above us. Sparks were falling down on us, as if a fire work had just been lit right above us. I screamed because i was so scared.

"Amy! i need you hold on to me, I got a helicopter to come and get us but it's not gonna be here in time"

A lot of questions were going through my head but as i was about to ask, my aunt sprouted wings, i sound crazy but i'm serious. I thought she was an angel but she changed into something else. She had the head and wings of an eagle but the body of a lion. I was instantly scared and felt like jumping off the building in shock. She grabbed my hand and shouted that we had to go.

I remembered that i had left Sky in his locked cage and the one time that i actually lock his cage. I couldn't just leave him there, he was family. Kelly, my aunt, stopped and went back into the building. More sparks were falling. I'm not a genius but i worked out that the people or whatever they were, trying to attack us couldn't because my aunt had set an invisible force shield to protect us but the shield was getting weak, i could feel it.

A loud explosion came from above me. I had a bad feeling that the shield had been brought down. Unfortunately, i was right. Similar looking creatures to what my aunt had turned into came flying in. There where a lot of them. I ran to the edge of the building rooftop. My heart was beating so fast that i think they could see it through my chest.

One of the creatures approached me as it transformed into it's human form. It was a woman.
"Don't be scared honey, i'm not gonna hurt you." she said in a warm voice.

I was expecting my aunt to come running into through the only door on the roof, any second now. In the mean time i had to avoid any of these things, who knows how dangerous they were. As the woman approached me slowly, i also moved away from where she was. Sooner i was running out of space to run away from her. The only place left to get away from her was to jump off and did i mention i was scared of heights?

The woman was so close to me when my aunt burst the door. As soon as she went through the other animals attacked her. She fought them off as much as she could but in the end she was too out numbered.

"Jump Amy! if you believe you can fly then you can do it" she yelled this several times.

I couldn't jump, in my head i hoped that this was all just a bad dream. Sky flew and landed on my shoulder. The woman walked closer towards me and at that moment i knew i had to jump off. I climbed on the bar and jumped, head first, as if i was diving into a pool.

It took me two seconds while i was falling to realize that i couldn't do this, my mind was full of so many questions. i started panicking. Then everything went dizzy, i couldn't, i couldn't see or hear anything and i blacked out... completely
