What're You Hoping For? || A Zachary Sayle/Toursies Story

There aren't many (or any) Newsies stories on here, so I took the liberty of adding one that I've been working on for a while. It's a ship between my character, Faith Flaherty, and Zachary Sayle, who played Crutchie in the first North American tour of Newsies.

What're You Hoping For? || A Zachary Sayle/Toursies Story
Chapter 7.

Faith’s P.O.V.
I rode to the restaurant (Mr. Broadway, ironically) in Zach’s car, while Ben and Josh all rode in Sky’s. We pulled up to the small restaurant and went inside, seeing the rest of the cast sitting with a bunch of the small tables pushed together. We walked up and I sat down in between Zach and Josh with Stephanie across from me and Sky and Ben on either side of her.
“So, Faith,” Stephanie started, “have you ever been in a show before?” I nodded. “What shows?” I opened my mouth to start talking, but immediately went into a coughing fit. Zach handed me a glass of water.
“I know she’s been in Guys and Dolls and Into the Woods,” Ben said. I nodded.
“I’ve also been in A Christmas Carol and Once On This Island,” I said in between coughs. Josh placed his hand on my shoulder and I turned to him.
“Are you alright?” he asked in a low voice. I nodded.
“Car exhaust,” I said. “I must’ve breathed it in.”
“Just wanted to make sure you weren’t gonna die, cause I don’t want the person next to me to fall on top of me and be dead.” I laughed and almost spit my water out on the table, which caused me to start coughing again.
It was a very interesting night.

Ben’s P.O.V.
“I’ve also been in A Christmas Carol and Once On This Island.” Josh put his hand on Faith’s shoulder and she turned to him. After whispering between each other, she laughed, coughing again and almost spitting her water out. I felt weird seeing them so close after just meeting today. What is this feeling, so sudden and new? (comment if you know)
I mean, she’s Sky’s sister, but from what I’ve seen, they’re not that much alike. Sky’s like a child. He’s constantly being scolded by her for being so childish. But, at the same time, she plays the part of the little child very well too. I mean, she’s perfect for that role. She has the sparkling eyes of a curious child, the beautiful hair of a little girl who wants to be different, and the adorably awkward smile of a kid who’s not sure of themselves but wants to be nice to everyone . . . . . oh.

Sky’s P.O.V.
As Faith and Josh started laughing, I saw Ben looking at Faith with a look in his eye I’d never seen before. The rest of the night was generally unimportant: mostly general life questions about Faith (favorite color, favorite show, favorite song, etc.) and we were back at the hotel when Zach came up behind me.
“Hey, a bunch of us are gonna go hang out by the fire pit,” he said. “Do you and Faith wanna come, or are you going back to your apartment?” I looked over at Faith. Jacob was laying face down on the couch and she was laying on top of him. I laughed and waved her over. She got off of Jacob, only for him to tell her to get on his shoulders. She did, and they walked over.
“What do you want?” she asked, pretending to be disgusted.
“Well, I was gonna ask you if you wanted to go down to the fire pit with everyone else, but I guess you’d rather just go home,” I said, looking at my nails. I looked back up at her. Her face was blank.
“Idiot,” she said. “Why would I want to go home? That would just mean me being alone with you!” I shook my head, turned to Zach, and nodded.
“Yeah, we’ll come down,” I said. He smiled and waved at Faith. She waved back.
“HI, DAD!!!!” she said, excitedly. I looked at Ben and he was looking at Faith with the same look as before. “Are you going to the fire pit tonight, Dad?” He nodded. “YAY!!” Jacob carried her back to the couch and flipped her over his head. I looked at Ben as he walked down the hall. I followed after him.
“Benji!” I called. He turned around. “Where are you going? Are you not coming down to the fire pit?” He shook his head and looked at the floor. I sighed. “Is this about Faith?” He looked up, his cheeks dusted with a pale pink. He shook his head violently.
“N-no!” he exclaimed. “W-why would you th-think that?” I chuckled under my breath.
“Don’t even try to lie,” I said. “She’s my sister, and you’re about as close to me as a brother. I can tell what you’re thinking.” He sighed and looked down.
“I just . . . I-I dunno, I-I-I . . .” He sighed. “I-I just don’t know.” I sighed and slid down the wall, sitting on the floor, and motioned for him to do the same. He sat down next to me and sighed.
“I’ve seen the way you look at her,” I said. “You like her, don’t you?” He sighed, his ears pink.
        “Well . . .”

Faith’s P.O.V.
“So, Faith,” Josh said. We were all seated around the fire pit. Well, by all, I mean Zach, Stephanie, Dan, Jacob, Vincent, Anthony, Jeff, Josh, Jordan, and Chaz. I looked at Josh.
“Che cosa?” I asked. (What?) He tilted his head in confusion.
“È stupefacente,” Zach said. (That’s amazing.) “Finalmente lo abbiamo fatto tacere!” (We finally got him to shut up!) We laughed.
“Are we missing something?” Jacob asked. I looked around.
“Si. Ben e mio fratello,” I replied. (Yeah. Ben and my brother.) Zach looked around. “Dove sono loro?” (Where are they?) He shrugged, and Ben and Sky came running out.
“Sorry we’re late,” Sky said. “We-”
“Had to help your mom with something?” Vince asked. I laughed.
“È stupefacente,” I said. Zach nodded. Sky sighed.
“Faith, what have we said about speaking in Italian?” he asked. “Not everyone is multilingual.” I nodded.
“Lo so.” (I know.) He sighed. “Alright, I’ll stop.” I punched him in the arm and turned to Josh. “Now, what did you want me for?”
“Oh, yeah!” he exclaimed, grabbing a marshmallow and popping it in his mouth. “Earlier, you said you were coughing because you must’ve inhaled car exhaust outside.” I nodded. “Why would that be why?” I sighed.
“I was born with a lung disorder,” I said. “Sky wasn’t. It’s called Cystic Fibrosis, and it’s kind of like asthma, but I can run for a long period of time without having to use an inhaler. I only really have to use an inhaler every morning and every night.” He nodded.
        “Wow,” Jeff said.
“Pretty much sums it up,” I said. Everyone laughed. We had talked and roasted marshmallows for a while when the wind blew the smoke right into my face and I started coughing again. Sky grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from the smoke.
“Faith, are you alright?” Dan asked. I nodded, still coughing. Sky led me to sit on the other side of the fire, by Ben.
“I’ll go get you some water,” he said, before walking inside.

I would use that--in fact I have unfinished stories on there under CrutchieMorris--but I can only access it on my kindle, on which the internet no longer works.
