What're You Hoping For? || A Zachary Sayle/Toursies Story

There aren't many (or any) Newsies stories on here, so I took the liberty of adding one that I've been working on for a while. It's a ship between my character, Faith Flaherty, and Zachary Sayle, who played Crutchie in the first North American tour of Newsies.

Zach’s P.O.V.

December 12, 2014, 11:09 pm
Are you ok?
You guys left in a rush, I didn’t know if something had happened.
Do I need to beat someone up for you?
‘Cause I’ll totally do it
Hello?
Did your phone die?
I’m back at the hotel now, so I will definitely break down Stephanie’s door just to see if you’re in there
I mean it, I won’t hesitate
11:24 pm
Ok, I literally checked Stephanie’s room, and you aren’t there, so I’m assuming that you and Sky went back to your apartment
I will not hesitate to drive over there
Come on! I’m starting to think you died!
11:57 pm
That’s it. You’re worrying me. I’m coming over.

I looked up from my phone. Josh was asleep, but I was too worried about Faith to do anything. I couldn’t even make a cup of Ramen until I knew she was okay. I jumped off the bed and grabbed my backpack. I threw my phone, a roomkey, and my hat into it and left, closing the door quietly behind me. I drove to Sky’s apartment building, not even listening to anything, and ran up the stairs, two at a time. I knocked on his door, and a tired looking Sky answered it.
“Zach?” he asked. “What’re you doing here?” I shook my head, out of breath.
“Is Faith alright?” I asked. “After you guys left, I texted her about fifteen times. I even went to Stephanie’s room to see if she was there, but I couldn’t find her, and she didn’t answer any of my texts, which is really weird, because I texted her over the span of an hour, and she always checks her phone at least twice every hour, so-”
“Zach,” Sky cut me off. “She’s fine.” He looked back into the apartment. “Well . . . not exactly, but I’m not supposed to say.” I grabbed his shoulder and he looked at me.
“Please, Sky!” I exclaimed. “I’m worried about her!” He looked back inside the apartment and stepped outside, closing the door behind him.
“I’m not supposed to tell you, but I know you two are dating, and . . . someone else guessed it, and, because Faith doesn’t lie, and I mean ever, she told them that they were right,” he said. I racked my brain for who Faith would be this upset about finding out. It only took a minute because it was perfectly obvious. I looked back up at him.
“Ben?” I asked. He hesitated, but nodded. I sighed. “Where is she?” Sky shook his head. “Sky,” I said, warningly.
“She told me she didn’t want to talk to anyone!” he said. “Not even me! She shut herself in her room, and I know for a fact that she’s not asleep.” I frowned.
“Why is she not asleep?” I asked. Sky looked like he could cry.
“She has enough trouble sleeping on normal nights,” he said. “She takes melatonin every night.” He leaned back on the door. “But when something like this happens--traumatic events, I mean--it’s even worse, and . . .” He sniffled, and his eyes were red. “She didn’t take anything tonight.” I was more scared than before, if possible.
“Sky, I’m begging you,” I started, “let me see her.” He sighed.
“I would, believe me,” he said. “I really would, but-”
“But what?” I asked, confused. “What could keep you from letting anyone see her?” A tear slipped down his cheek. “Sky?”
“I’m afraid of what’s gonna happen if I interfere,” he said. “Now, normally, that wouldn’t stop me, but . . . she blocked the door.” My eyes were wide.
“She what?!” I whisper yelled. “Sky, we need to open that door!” He nodded and unlocked the apartment door. We walked back to a TARDIS blue door with marquee lights around the edge. The lights were off. Sky grabbed the door knob and turned it. He pushed on the door. It wouldn’t open. I pushed on the door next to him. The door opened about two inches. I reached in and felt for what was blocking the door. I didn’t feel anything, but the door opened entirely, and there, sprawled on the floor, was Faith. She sat up.
“Ow,” she said with a monotone voice. “Did you never think to ask to come in?” I glared at Sky. He shrugged. I looked back at Faith and wrapped her in a hug. She buried her face in my chest.
“I have a lot of things I wanna ask you right now,” I started, “but I’m gonna start with ‘Are you okay?’” She nodded, pulled away, and sat on her bed.
“Why are you here?” she asked. “Not that I want you to leave, but it’s, like, midnight!” I chuckled and sat beside her. Sky smirked and walked away.
“You didn’t answer any of my texts, and you usually check your phone at least twice every hour,” I replied. “When no one knew where you were, I got scared, so I figured you came back here, and . . . here I am!” She chuckled.
“Well, I’m glad you are,” she whispered. I smirked.
“Are you trying to tell me something?” I asked. She laughed.
“I know what you’re insinuating, and you have a fair point, but no.” I nodded. “But when Ben figured out what happened, I just felt . . . really bad.” I nodded again. “I mean, reading all the comments on us, I felt like I wanted to be with you, and not Ben, but he told me he liked me first, and, while it was what I wanted, it somehow felt wrong to not want to tell him.” I sighed.
“I get it,” I said. “You didn’t want to hurt him after what he told you.” She nodded, and I smiled. “That’s one of the things I like about you: you never want to hurt someone,” I paused. “But what I don’t like is that when you do--even if it was an accident or wasn’t even partially your fault--you take the blame and feel like it was all because of you.” She nodded again. “But you need to be able to do what you feel is right for you. If you had wanted to be with Ben and not me, I would’ve been fine with that because that’s your choice. It’s your life, and you are the only one that can make decisions for you.” She nodded.
“And whatever happens,” I started, “don’t ever shut everyone out again. You honestly don’t know how scared I was. I mean, what if you had . . . dropped out of Newsies because you didn’t feel comfortable around me and Ben anymore?” She laughed. “Just know . . . me, Sky, Steph, even Vince. We’re here for you . . . whenever you need it.” She smiled softly.
“Thank you,” she whispered. She leaned forward, and our lips met.
And I never wanted the moment to end.

I would use that--in fact I have unfinished stories on there under CrutchieMorris--but I can only access it on my kindle, on which the internet no longer works.
