What're You Hoping For? || A Zachary Sayle/Toursies Story

There aren't many (or any) Newsies stories on here, so I took the liberty of adding one that I've been working on for a while. It's a ship between my character, Faith Flaherty, and Zachary Sayle, who played Crutchie in the first North American tour of Newsies.

What're You Hoping For? || A Zachary Sayle/Toursies Story
Chapter 14.

Faith’s P.O.V.
        “For jumpin’ Jack’s sake, can you stow the seriosity long enough to just drink in the moment?” Ben grabbed Sky and faced the audience. “I’m famous!” He stuck the cigar in his mouth as the audience laughed.
        “Yeah, what of it?” DeMarius asked, dumbly. I looked at him.
        “Well, are ya stupid or what?” I asked. Ben walked over to me.
        “When you’re famous,” he said, “the woild is yer erster!” I looked at floor.
        “Ya what?” DeMarius asked. I looked at him, stupidly.
        “Ya erster,” I said. Everyone shrugged as he looked around.
“Ya erster!” Ben exclaimed. More shrugs.
“Ya know, ya fancy clam with the poil inside!” I yelled. Everyone sighed. DeMarius shook his head.
        “Alright, well how much does bein’ famous pay?” Ben shook his head.
        “Nah, ya don’t need money when ya famous,” I said as Ben walked over and took the paper out of Jacob’s hand.
“They gives ya whatever ya want.” He said, smirking. “Gratis!” DeMarius scoffed.
        “Such as?” Ben looked at him, then back at the paper.
        “A pair o’ new shoes with matchin’ laces,” he sang. I walked over and took the paper.
        “A permanent box at the Sheepshead Races,” I sang. It went on and on like this, and it was amazing! When the time came for me and Ben’s dance, my breath and hands were shaky. I could have sworn I saw Zach standing in the wings with a weird look on his face when Ben and I reached for each other’s hands at the end of our section. I let mine fall to my side, looking at the floor. He did the same. We looked up at each other after a second and smiled before moving on with the rest of the dance.

        As I ran out onto stage with Ben for bows, I finally felt the knot in my stomach go away. We bowed and did our handshake and he ran up to the second level of the towers while I ran to stand by Meredith and Angela. After Dan ran out and we we were all just hanging out on stage, Zach turned to me and smiled.
        “So?” he asked. “Did you make it without hyperventilating?” I nodded.
        “Barely,” I said. “I only started breathing again when me and Ben ran out.” He smiled.
        “Well, if you managed to not die tonight, then I suppose I can too.” I tilted my head in confusion.
        “You’re still nervous?” He nodded. “The show’s over.” He shrugged his shoulders.
        “I never said I was nervous about the show.” He left it at that. “How do you feel now that you’ve had your Broadway debut?” I thought for a second.
        “I feel official.” He laughed as we walked off stage. In the wings, I looked around for Sky. I couldn’t see him anywhere. I turned to Ben.
        “Hey, Ben?” He looked at me. “Do you know where Sky is?” He smirked and pointed to the stage. I looked out and there was my idiot of a brother, standing in the middle of the stage.
        “Hi, everyone,” he said. “My name is Sky Flaherty, and I played Albert for you guys tonight, but this isn’t about me.” Oh no. “Tonight we had an official addition to our Toursies family, and I’d like to tell you a little bit about her. In case you don’t know, we’re talking about my sister here, so I’m probably in for some . . . stuff backstage.” The audience laughed. “I’ve known Faith for sixteen years, almost seventeen, her whole life obviously, and when she was in, uh . . . . seventh grade and I was in ninth, she got in to theatre when she got into the school play, Once on this Island Jr., and, uh, let’s just say . . . . . I was extremely jealous!” My eyes watered up as the audience laughed again. “I mean, this was my little sister, up there doing what she loved! She was acting and singing and . . . dancing to a certain extent.” I laughed, a tear falling down my cheek. “And then . . .” He laughed and I could see his eyes watering up. “And then I got accepted to be in Newsies, and . . . and you should have seen the look on her face.” We were both crying now. “She begged my mom for weeks to come with me, but, being a mom, she said. ‘No, you have to go to this high school, take all AP classes, and make our community theatre worth something!’, but . . . . but she wouldn’t give up.” His voice cracked. “When she told our mom that she was going to apply for Julliard, our mom finally gave up. She knew that Faith wouldn’t give up until she got the answer she wanted. So she said yes! She said Faith would end up auditioning for Broadway anyway, so even if she said no, she would end up here, and then . . .” He laughed and looked at the floor. “And then she did that very thing without anyone knowing.” He paused and wiped the tears from his face.
        “She was often times gone during the day, um . . . . ‘Getting to know the city,’ she said. But she always came back before she said she would, so I did what any idiot older brother would do. I did . . . . . absolutely nothing. So when Mr. Calhoun told us that we would be getting a new girlsie added to our cast, and that he had already had auditions and selected one, the first thought that went through my head was, ‘Man, Faith would’ve loved to have that part.’” He smiled. “And then she walked out of his office, and I felt like the happiest person in the world. ‘My sister’s gonna work with me where she’s always wanted to!’ And now she’s here!” He looked at me. “It’s official! My sister’s a Toursie!” He sighed, still smiling. “And I’m the proudest brother in the world.” I laughed as he held his hand out.
I ran onstage and attacked him in a hug. He wrapped his arms around me and whispered, “I’m so proud of you, Angel.”

I would use that--in fact I have unfinished stories on there under CrutchieMorris--but I can only access it on my kindle, on which the internet no longer works.
