Chapter 3.

Sweetie, Everything's Eventual

As I headed back, I decided to take another walk someplace else, as I turned right instead of left and headed towards Mulberry Ave. this is where most of the students live, sometimes I feel stranded, always being caught in the middle of a neighbourhood full of, erm, ‘oldies’.

As I reached the park, already I saw a few kids I knew.
“Charlene, Kathie, guys over here!” I called out; they were sitting on the seesaw together chewing on MacDonald’s.
“Liz, hey!” they called out, I walked over to them, they got up and hugged me, as we walked away together along the path, we talked about our weekend so far.
“I called The Guy,” Charlene said, as she sucked her lip then rolled her eyes flirtatiously, we all ‘oohhhed’ and ‘ahhhed’ at this.
“I went out with The Guy,” we all laughed, The Guy is the codename for My Boyfriend, yet I don’t have one so it gets weird at times.

“My Guy hasn’t realised that he loves me yet,” we all burst out laughing at this,
Good all messed-up-with-friends times.
“Is that guy by any chance Paul, Lizzie?” Kathie asked, as I playfully punched her shoulder and we kept going. Paul is my crush.

We got to Giallo’s Gelato’s and bought a sundae each, yet Charlene offered to pay for mine, I accepted of course. We get a discount though since the owner, Timothy Giallo, is friends with Kathie’s dad.
“How’s Rick going Kath?” he asked, as he quickly wiped us a table with a towel.
“He’s good, in fact he’s doing great actually,” Kathie said, after thoroughly thinking it through she made a decision, “I mean, our bills are never tight,”
Giallo nodded, a look of envy flashed on his face but then was quickly hidden by a smile,
“Well, that’s great, send him my kind regards, Kath,” he smiled and waved.

“He’s lovely,” I said after he left, we pulled our chairs out and sat down,
“Mmm,” Charlene liked her lips, “Yeh, he’s a sweet thing, and he makes good food,”
We all agreed, and then Charlene spoke up, “Kath,” Kathie looked up, “What was that?”
“What was what?” she asked, playing stupid, I bet. We still looked at her.
Then she spoke.

“Here are a few words for you, that man is an envious, sneaky monkey,”
She said, and then Charlene laughed, “You heard me, he is,” she protested, but even she was cracking up herself.
“Well it isn’t like he’s going downhill, right? So why would he be envious?” I asked, spooning some sundae into my mouth.

“Well, it isn’t really something I should be ‘spreading’, but Giallo’s …” then she stopped as a little girl came up to us and showed us her balloon, we smiled and we were polite, but as she left we continued.
“Giallo’s is going downhill,” Kathie whispered, “No more of this,” she looked down at her ice cream and kissed the sundae cup, Charlene and me groaned.
