He's one of my favorite protags of all time and not bc Im currently forming a fixation on ranfren but because he's so well written into the story. He mirrors the artstyle and setting perfectly and manages to make the artstyle and setting mirror him as well. He fits into the character trope of being "deranged unhinged and a freak" perfectly, but manages to be unique in a way where he isn't a novelty in the story. There's also no second hand embarrassment which is actually neat and many ppl don't think of that as a loophole in a character, but sometimes when a character is fitted into that trope the author makes the mistake of including things like embarrassment into the story which doesn't work out. Overrall, his character is executed perfectly, and he manages to fit into the "deranged unhinged and a freak" trope perfectly (and without mocking mental illness, which is also common for the trope)

wait actually I can go on about how I love how his existence in the story doesn't mock mental illness bc of the trope he fits into there are too many harley quins and it was so refreshing to see a character and story that is unhinged but not abt mocking mental illness yk.
