We ignore the compliments we're given
Because we're used to petty fools
Who walk all over us
Spitting white lies from their mouth
We deny that we are any good
Because we're used to hiding under a mask
Hearing insults meant for us See More
Even if they're not
They locked us in the closet
With chains of threatening words
And iron threats
One we'd never lose, nor forget.
We broke the door down,
As the closet got colder
Got fuller
And darker
And they yelled
Screamed
Kicked
And fought
But confidence was stronger
More powerful than fear
More powerful than hate
For we had love
And iron chains made of hugs,
And reassurance
Bound us together
So we'd be safe
And we gathered the stray
The list
And abandoned
And saved them
From the shadows that ate us up
Like we were candy
And it was a five year old girl
And we won
Win a battle that was said to be lost
And we yelled
And screamed
All for victory

And peace
We were free to live

Judgement.
And then I woke up.
