They're all following the Icarus story in some way (just the part where Icarus gets cocky and flies to the sun and gets burnt then drowns so his dad has to keep flying without Icarus)
They all either get that talent they get their high from, then crash while watching their support systems carry on flying unaware they have that weight of loss on them.
