Should oc's be made for fun?or research

I really want to settle this and see how many people think they should do research before they make an oc or just make it for fun. And don't put in the "oh it can be for this but you have ta do this this and this" no dab if you've never seen the fandom u have to research it like your already familiar with the fandom

OC are supposed to be made for fun
But you should do some research on the show/game/etc before creating the OC
