Can we just talk about how in ‘Catch and Release’, Peridot was horrified that they were going to hurt her. -When Steven brought her her foot, she asked if he had the rest. She wanted the rest of her armor (I’m called in armor because that’s basically what it is even though she called them 'limb enhancers’ ) because her armor made her feel bigger, stronger, powerful. -She was paranoid that everything was a weapon, and was terrified of the Crystal Gems because she knows what their See More capable of, and that they already have killed who knows how many Homeworld gems during the war. -She tried to keep up this tough facade through her interactions with the Crystal Gems, but it fell just enough times for us to see that she just wants to go home, kind of like Lapis when Steven freed her. She was practically crying at the Homeworld warp after Steven wasn’t able to fix it and was certain she was “'going to die here’”. -HER LITTLE YELP WHEN SHE THOUGHT STEVEN WOULD HURT HER WITH A TOWEL. -How scared she was talking about the 'Cluster’ and even seemed like she was terrified of Yellow Diamond (based off of what very little we know of Yellow Diamond, they seem like an intimidating gem) Peridot is just so scared and wants to go home. I think she makes the perfect antagonist because she’s apart of this whole plan to presumably destroy Earth, but when the plan goes wrong and she loses her support (Jasper, contact to Yellow Diamond, limb enhancers) we see how nervous and paranoid she is and while Jasper just seems like a 100% rotten to the core antagonist with zero empathy or sympathy (and pretty badass, quite frankly) Peridot actually has feelings and a completely different personality underneath all of her protection. Steven Universe is just so important okay
