I think it's because people will see the sky and think that their is not a stair

When I'm walking down the stairs id be going quick enough to not notice the mirror anyway xD

Yes, but when people are walking down the stairs they usuall don't take a step every 30 seconds so they can think of how the sky is up... When your walking down the stairs your really not focused on it and if you are, good for you :)
