Chapter 2.
WaterFish

WaterFish

Kennedy Blue was not having the best day in the world. For multiple reasons. She was worried out of her mind, and some of the fish in her Army were not well. A couple days ago, when she had used her Army's sacred Power, Appearing and Disappearing, she had appeared in a tiny pond. She couldn't see anybody but could have sworn a SnowLeopard was using their Invisibility power to spy on her.
One of the dolphins, Ennity Mellson, was healing a seal named Helena Brown. A couple months ago, there was a civil war. Some animals thought that there should only be fish in the Army, and others thought that there could be any marine animals in the Army.
Kennedy was worried that her Army was starting to fall apart. Helena was having trouble breathing. And Joanne Flipps had a cut on her side that was stubbornly refusing to heal. Finn Moore was unconscious, and not waking up. And Jule Rose was still completing her WaterOne transformation. And also, Jennica Dorsal was having to deal with all these patients. Except for Helena.
One of the Ones, Josie Ivenwire, had claimed to be on her last week of life.
She said, “It is time to go. I will leave soon, and I will be gone, but don't think of it. Think of uniting with the SnowLeopards.” She refused any type of healing that could keep her alive. She repeated, “It is time for me to go. Think of uniting with the SnowLeopards.”
Josie's son, Jack, was taking this especially hard. He had been driven mad by his father, Daniel Ivenwire, and brother, Sinter Ivenwire's death, and was now desperately asking random Ones and Fish to heal her. Sometimes, Jack would have seizures, and his mother was the only One who could calm him. Finally, he decided to journey to the Oracle to find out if anyone could heal Josie. The WaterOnes hadn't seen him since.
That's what worried Kennedy Blue the most. Having a One in her Army who would have seizures was scary, but having a One in her Army that was driven mad and would have seizures was terrifying. In fact, he and Josie were given their own house.
But Kennedy wasn't exactly happy about an Army member leaving. It made her feel uncomfortable, disloyal, insecure. She remembered the whole Ivenwire family. They were the second to last family of Ones on Pax, and perhaps in the world. They seemed a perfect family. Josie and Daniel would teach Sinter things, before Jack was alive, and when Jack was born, Sinter taught him the exact same things. Kennedy didn't remember a single word the family said against each other. Than, in Pax War I, Daniel volunteered to fight and a SandScorpion stung him on the heart. Van Meyers, the Head of SandScorpions, actually did it. Next came Pax War II, which was smaller than Pax War I, came and went, and WaterOnes won. Finally, on what everyone called the Double War, but which was actually Pax War III, arrived. The SandScorpions were using Humans from Earth to help them fight. The Clawbirds were also fighting with SandScorpions for that only war. In honor of his father, Sinter fought, and was killed. Then Jack was driven mad. A year after his madness, he started having seizures, too. Josie was sure he was going to die. So she asked Kennedy to build a house on the bottom of the ocean, in a shallow section. Kennedy hired Mark and Fletcher Miller, and they built a beautiful sandstone house. A month ago, Josie got bronchitis, which is when the bronchial cords to your lungs are infected. Her bronchitis later turned into pneumonia, and Jennica Jorsal offered her antibiotics. It made her pneumonia go away, but the antibiotics also flushed out good white blood cells. Then she caught the flu from Jack, which had been passed around the Army. She caught the flu two days after her antibiotics, which made her really sick. She got more antibiotics, which made the flu go away, but her pneumonia returned, along with lung cancer. She told Kennedy every breath hurt, but she wasn't ready to die yet. So she said she would stay for one more week.
The main healer, Jennica Jorsal, was taking care of her. There was only four days left of Josie's survival. She had spent three days with Jack. But then all her sicknesses got worse and Jennica Jorsal had to put a tube of air in Josie's mouth because Josie couldn't breathe anymore.
Finally, with two days left, Josie made a cutting motion with her hand and wrote down on sandpaper,
I cannot do this any longer. It is horrible.
When Jack gets back, tell him I love him. Send him to Melissa and Royal Carter. He likes them.
But this is horrible.
Good-bye.
Now turn the breather off. I want to die. Now.

Her hand flopped down as Jennica took out the breather slowly and sadly and turned it off. Her eyes became blank and glassy. And she died.
