Chapter 2.

2

I was aroused from my sleep by an alarm clock ringing in my ear. I jumped and it took me a few seconds to register where I was. Oh yeah, dad's house.
"Wakey, Wakey Bea!"
"What?" I mumbled, shoving my head under my pillow.
"You're going to school!"
"What?!" I almost knocked him over as I sat up straight in alarm.
"Yep! Now hurry up, you have twenty minutes!"
~

My dad obviously hadn't thought about time, it took me an hour to get ready, have breakfast, do teeth, hair, and find a useful schoolbag of my dad's. Then it took us forty five minutes to get there due to traffic. I stumbled into reception and looked at the lady's pearl white, shining, smiley teeth.
"I'm Elizabeth Thorne," I said, looking around for my dad who seemed to have disappeared. "I'm new."
"Oh yes! Your papers were sent in the mail this morning. Here, take this map. You're a bit late but there's no worry."
She smiled a dazzling receptionist smile. "You're in history now, just there." She pointed out on the map and I nodded. "Welcome to Hillsborough High
Even with the map it took me at least ten minutes to find it. Eventually I found it, two doors away from the reception. I scowled and opened the door. Thirty heads turned in my direction and everything went silent.
"I-I'm new," I stuttered. "Elizabeth Thorne."
"Right, I see. Go and sit over there, Elizabeth and just try and catch up." The teacher was a tall man, dark hair and impatient body language.
He turned back to the board and I took in my surroundings. A few posters, bored students and a large blackboard with white chalk written all over it. 'How old fashioned' I thought dryly.
"Miss Thorne," The teacher said, bringing my attention back to him. " Can you tell me how long Julius Caesar lived for?"
My mind went blank. "Who is Julius Caesar?" I asked, oblivious. The class groaned and I saw a dark haired boy in the corner chuckle. As the teacher turned back to me, a girl with neat chin-length black hair, three silver hair clips pinning it back turned to me. Her nails were long and polished and her lashes were long. "Are you from America?" she asked.
"Yeah. We never learned about Gulias Ceeser there."
She laughed quietly and held out a dainty hand. "I'm Isabella Hammond," she smiled. I shook it. "Elizabeth Thorne."
"Yeah, I got that."
"Right."
"That teacher? Always picks on the new kids. Don't fret. Mr Hubbard is one of the nice ones."
I nod.

~

It's lunchtime and I spend it with Isabella. "So, who's who?" I ask her.
"Well, the nerds are over there, as you can clearly see." I look at the bunch of nerds she is indicating to. Glasses, maths books, just how I expected.
"Jocks." A group of massive boys, eating pizza and shoving each other mockingly.
"Weirdos." Nose picking, strange weirdos.
"Gossipers." Pink, designer, make-up loving gossipers.
"And finally the bad boys." I turn and see motorbikes, boys leaning against them. I stare for longer than I want to. A blonde one with long hair is speaking. Three more, a brown haired one, one in a helmet and another boy who looks familiar. The one who was laughing at me in History. "Who's he?" I ask.
"Who, him?" Isabella looked at him dreamily. "He's Leon Ruiz. The hottest guy here. Of course, he's too good for anyone here," she looks disappointed and I resist a small smile, suspecting she was probably turned down. He laughs at his mate and then turns to me. I gasp and divert my gaze somewhere else. I wish I was still in America.

My favorite part so far is definitely 'Wow dad. You just ripped the front door off.' I wish I could find an excuse to say that!
