Dauntless Born Part 1

The journey to the pit

Finally, Lily Taylor makes her choice, Amity. Then, it's time to go. The Dauntless run along, whooping and catcalling. We slow down and I hear the familiar hoot of a train.
Oh no.
The first lot of the Dauntless jump onto the train flawlessly. I jump and lose my balance. Suddenly, a transfer girl from Amity grabs my hand and hauls me onto the train.
"Thanks" I pant breathlessly.
"It was nothing" the girl smiles. She has long red hair, freckles and green eyes. Pretty. She laughs and points to something.
"Look!"
"What?" I ask her.
"Look over there!" she says. 5 of the Dauntless are holding eachothers feet and are practically FLYING outside the train.
"That's dangerous" mumbles an Abnegation boy.
The girl raises her eyebrows, "This is what you signed up for"
"Well I don't have to if I don't want to" the boy protests. He leans outside the carriage, looking at the fearless Dauntless. He loses his balance and falls out of the train, puts his head in his hands and stays still.
"I'm Abigail but you can call me Abi" the girl says.
"Ivy" I say.
"Nice name" she grins.
I smile and look away.
30 minutes later...

"Look Ivy!" shouts Abi frantically. For half and hour, I've been dying a streak of my hair blue with some of Abi's dye. The Dauntless are jumping off the train onto a roof, cheering as they plummet down.
"Come on, it'll be fine Darcy" says an Erudite boy.
"It's not what we would do" mumbles Darcy.
"Well you aren't in Erudite anymore, dead brain. Just get a move on. We need to go to" screeches Abi, shoving them. They leap off, Darcy screaming as she falls.
"Come on then" says Abi. I hold her hand. We are suspended in thin air and then my feet slam into the roof, sending prickles of pain up my shin.
"That was fun!" laughs Abi. She'll fit in perfectly with the Dauntless thrill seekers. A Dauntless girl stands at the edge of the rooftop, screaming.
"Calm down Chelsea, calm down. Please Chelsea" pleads a boy. Chelsea sinks to her knees, sobbing. A girl is on the pavement below, her arms and legs sprawled out in funny angles, her hair spread out like a halo around her head.
Even the Dauntless aren't safe.
I turn off and see the tallest of the Dauntless at the edge of the rooftop, shouting.
"Who's going to be the first to jump off?" he shouts. It turns immediately silent. You can her the wind whistling in the building around us. Everyone looks worried and upset. If no one is going to jump first, who will?
"I wil" I say fiercly.
