Dear Alison, I am ruining your life.I walk down the road, my shoes slapping the pavement. It's cold. It's January. It takes just 5 minutes to walk from my school to my house, but I am walking extra long to get to Kate's house. I finally reach her driveway, my eyes filled with tears from the wind whipping against them. I knock the door quickly and shove my hands in my pockets.
"Hey, Alison. Kate is in the kitchen. Come on in!" Mrs. Johnson opens the door and lets me in. I walk through the house until I reach their large, glamorous kitchen.
"Hey, Ali!" Kate smiles. Her blonde hair is in a smooth ponytail. She has very little makeup on. Hey blue eyes are large and excited. She is wearing a sweatshirt and faded jeans.
"Hey." My voice sounds small. I drop my overnight bag I brought to school so I could come straight here.
"Okay, so we are going to do our nails, makeup, eat popcorn and pizza and ice cream, prank call people..." She rambles on but I focus on the trees swaying in the breeze outside.
"Kate, why don't you go clean up for dinner. You too, Alison." Mrs. Johnson wears a red apron. I follow Kate into her room.
I open my bag, just to make sure I have everything. On top of it all is a letter. I grab it and unfold it.
I know a secret. Your father is cheating on your mother. Tell your mom. Let her KNOW. You don't know me. You never will. All you know is that this is just the first letter. I am going to ruin your life." At the bottom is a picture of my dad and a girl kissing. I have no clue who she is.
I hear the bathroom door unlock, so I shove the letter in the bag, zip it, and try to fight tears that threaten to spill.
"Okay. Leggo eat!" Kate practically bounces across the room. I can't process what she is saying. My hands are balled into fists, my mouth is in a tight line, my body feels like it's about to shatter. Whoever this person is, they know something. Something is going to happen...
