Rose ran quickly down the hallway, her blood-stained dagger gripped tightly in her hands. She slipped around a corner and came to the front entrance of the palace, looking for the door. There she saw it, near completely closed.
She quickened her pace and slipped out the door, the shouts of guards quieting. She ran farther and farther, until she couldn't see the palace anymore. She leaned against the wall of a cottage and panted heavily. She looked up at the glittering night sky.
"That was so, so close..." she mumbled. Fiddling with her dagger in her hands, she went over what just happened in her head.
It had all started with an assasination.
Rose was hired to kill Princess Megan. It was a dangerous job, but when she was offered 36,000 gold to do so, how could she resist?
"I want her gone," the cloaked person said.
"W-why?" Rose asked.
"Do not ask. You either do it and have all this gold, or walk away a poor girl once again."
Rose gulped. "Okay."
Rose was a skilled murderer, she didn't know why this bothered her.
That night, she crept into the palace. All was peaceful, the only people awake were two guards that she easily snuck past. She had crept into Princess Megan's room, her chest tightening. She felt so bad.
Megan was dreaming of her birthday. It was rather soon, and she was dreaming of what she expected to happen.
She was sitting in the grassy yard with all her friends, the summer sun beaming down on them and their poofy dresses.
She heard a cough and turned around to see her mother, Queen Atsuko.
"Happy birthday darling," the Queen said.
Megan smiled and jumped up to hug her.
"Look at you, all grown up," Queen Atsuko sighed, "but you'll always be my baby girl."
"Of course, mo-" before she could finish her sentence, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach and everything went black.
She woke up to see the dark silhouette of Rose standing above her, Rose's dagger shoved into her stomach. Megan screamed and Rose pulled the dagger out, shoving it back into Megan's chest. She pulled it back out again and swiftly ran out the door, the pounding footsteps of the guards coming closer.
The guards saw her running down the hallway.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense! I time hopped a lot so I could get Megan in a little bit before I just killed her off! (Sorry to whoever created her! Since she was the first princess signed up I decided she was fit for this plot.)
