Enter MaddieMy alarm goes off at 6:30, but I'm already up. I've been up since 4. I don't know why I get up this early because school doesn't start until 8:30, but I'm always up at 4. Every day. I'm ready. It's my first day at Isaac's School for Gifted Children, High School Branch, and it's my job to parade those halls, helping out new kids, opening lockers, and get straight As. As I walk down the hallway, I peer into my twin brother Maddox's room. He's still asleep. I guess you could say it's also my job to wake him up every day. I swing the door open, turn the lights on, rip the blanket off of him, and I yell, "Daytime!"
My brother shoots up, his eyes darting from his broken alarm clock to the guitar hanging on his wall until, finally, they look up at me. "Darnit, Maddie..." He grumbled. I opened my mouth, about to say something, but then I voted against it. He was already pissed enough as it is.
"Come downstairs soon. I made breakfast." I told him.
I nodded. "Yeah, but you can't have any until you get dressed." I told him. He sighed, standing up.
As I walked downstairs, I felt powerful. I was able to command my brother to do things. I could cook. Any guy would be lucky to have me. I frowned. Then why didn't they want me, I thought. Siiigh. There were so many. Sporty Wren, tough guy Rex, creepy Faolan, sly Severus, I could name a bunch. I was the most popular, smartest, most prepared girl in the Middle School Branch, but I wasn't most desired. What did I have to do to get a boyfriend? I wouldn't say I was desperate, just disappointed. I've asked my mom why the boys don't go for me, but she just shrugs. I've never been on a date before, never been asked to school dances, heck, guys've never even flirted with me before! What was wrong with me?
