ConfinedMidnight stretched. His paws felt unusual. Maybe it had been caused by that sharp pointy thing the Human Beans had stuck into him. They called it a shot. Or a syringe thing; it was hard to pronounce. Stiffly, he got to his feet and wandered around, following the weird fence thing that confined him.
"Hey buddy!" A male Human Bean poked a stick through Midnight's fence. He jammed it in even more, grunting as he pushed it through the tight wires. "Come get it, boy!" The man's voice was taunting and rude. The sour scent drifted into Midnight's nostrils, and he snorted. He flexed his claws, watching the Human Bean stick part of his weird fleshy claws into the caged clearing. A thought jumped into Midnight's mind. If he did what he thought of... Maybe the stupid human beans would stop messing with him.
"Watch out, Mike, he's coming!" The fear scent of a female Human Bean practically slammed into Midnight, and her shriek made his ears ring. The man, Mike, as he was called, tried to wrench his hand out of the fence-but it was stuck. With a twinge of satisfaction, Midnight was about to sing his fangs into the Bean's paw when another paw grasped him by the scruff. He growled menacingly, trying to shake free, twisting around. Then he recognized the scent of the Human Bean-it was his 'Keeper', as he was called, Caleb.
Miko! Midnight thought in disgust. Those Human Beans; naming the wolves against their will, calling them such ridiculous names.
"Miko, stop it!" Now Caleb brought his face level with Midnight's-a daring move, especially with him. Midnight was a 'Rogue' as the Keepers called it; a wolf who was wild and untamed, who bit and fought, who stubbornly would not let itself be drawn to captivity. So Caleb had taken Midnight on, being his temporary Keeper, then his permanent one.
"H-how did you do that?" the female Bean asked Caleb in a saky voice, her fear scent overpowering now.
Jeez, the danger is over, Midnight thought impatiently. He would never disobey Caleb. No; he knew what would happen if he bit anyone just one more time. He's bitten others twice. Yes, he knew what would happen.
Lee, a juvenile wolf, had bitten at least three Keepers at the small 'sactuary'. The third time that wolf bit a Keeper, he was killed right in the encaged area where Midnight was kept. Right there. In front of HIS eyes.
