Chapter 1I could feel the wind gently caress my face as I sat and stared, unblinking, at the clouds. It was a sunny and warm day.
I could feel the slightly movement of the old oak tree which my back was against.
This is what peace feels like.
My eyes gently closed and I allowed myself to be surrounded in thoughts.
The day was pressing against my face and exposed skin, creating a soothing blanket around me.
"Just a nap..." I thought to myself "I haven't had one in a while..."
Just as I was dozing off, a vigorous shake of my shoulder woke me up.
I snapped my eyes open and looked up at the offender.
"Do you know how hard it was to find you?" My brother questioned.
"Let me guess, hard?" I said, carefully stepping over my words.
He moved his head slightly "You don't need to talk that slow, I'm not stupid."
A slight ping of anger struck me.
"Well its really di... uh... hard! Not to." I said defensively.
A small smirk flashed across his face before I stood up.
"What do you want me for, anyway." I said, walking sideways to look at him.
He shrugged and stuffed his hands into his jean pockets.
"Well that's helpful..." I muttered to myself, turning my head forward.
"Grey, why did you leave the house without telling me? You know its hard to find you in that field!" My mom had her hands on her hips as she was visibly angry with me.
"I told Damien right before I left!" For a split second, I looked over at my brother, Damien, who was holding back a smile.
My mom threw her arms up in the air.
"I can't ha-" her words were cut off by her turning around to go stand behind the counter. "-Cause I was worried!" I caught her say, when she turned back in my direction.
I smiled, even though she couldn't see it.
"You don't need to be worried... I can take care of myself." I said, stepping in front of the counter.
My mom visibly sighed and said "I know... you're growing up so fast..."
I smiled and then turned to face Damien, he looked shocked. This earned a snicker from me before turning back to my mom.
"I'm gonna go to my room, okay?" I said.
My mom nodded "Oh, don't forget to-"
I turned around before I could see her finish what she was saying.
From over my shoulder, I jokingly said "I can't hear you!" Then walked into my room.
