Chapter 1 ~ Eternal's POVI remember it well; the cold, dark, night sky above my house.
The view from my bedroom was breathtaking, and I loved looking down on the cherry-blossom trees in the backyard, and looking at the tiny pinpricks of light coming from the sky.
I almost felt as if it was trying to give me a message.
The door opened.
I turned my indigo-eyed gaze towards the bronze door.
My friend Shori Arcticfox stood there in the open.
She and I had been friends since... Well, since forever.
We never did anything without each other.
Though we were complete opposites, we were still best friends.
Like Ying and Yang.
Sun and Moon.
Butter and Potatoes. Wait, butter and potatoes?
Ah, whatever. You get the idea.
"Still awake?" She asked.
"Uhh, yeah. What's it look like to you?" I asked.
Without saying a word, she pushed her long, snowy white hair out of her face and climbed into her small bed.
"Going to sleep? This early?" I asked.
"Early? It's phantom hour!"
The phantom hour was when the clock struck midnight, and phantom spirits would roam around town. Or at least, that's what my mom told me. She yawned and put her head underneath the blue sheet.
I yawned too.
I guess I should be going to sleep too.
I climbed into my bed.
My bed was just plain old boring white.
It was like a blank canvas, ready to be painted.
I'd paint a simple, yet so complicated design on the covers, if I could.
Naaaaah, the paint would just soak through the covers and I'd end up ruining my bed.
Hah, I guess I could say I never really thought about my actions.
People cowered in fear sometimes.
Others acted as if I was... The evil queen or something.
Okay, so sometimes I'm cold and violent, but I had another side to me.
I tucked into my bed.
The next thing I remember, the alarm on my clock went off.
I fell out of my bed. "Oof."
5:00 AM?!Wow, it was only 5 hours after midnight.
Shori hit the snooze button, and got up.
I glanced at Shori.
"You set the alarm again, didn't you?"
She gave me a sheepish grin and shrugged.
"You idiot." I walked into the bathroom and brushed my teeth.
Everything was the same about me.
I was still a cat, still had the same indigo gaze, same purple dyed hair. Heck, I could kinda see the purple fading, revealing the chocolate brown hair I had.
After, I got dressed into my purple shirt and plum coloured jacket, black jeans, yada, yada, yada. I was wearing what I always wore.
Shori was already downstairs, dressed in her usual outfit.
"Hurry up!" I yelled.
My mom, a golden-furred lynx named Felicity Fierycat glanced at me. "Alright."
She put two plates on the table. Shori and I licked our lips. Pancakes!
Shori took one plate, and I took the other.
We started chowing down on the syrup-drenched mountains of delicious goodness.
I stopped. I looked at Shori's plate.
It looked as if she had gotten a quarter more pancakes than I did.
I clenched my fists. "YOU IDIOT!!! SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT!"
"Why?" She asked.
"YOU GOT MORE THAN I DID, YOU DIMWIT!"
"Relax, Eternal. She maybe got just one bigger pancake than you did, that's all." My mother said.
"Fine. I'll let it slide."
I glared at Shori the whole time we were eating breakfast.
I felt as if she was a queen.
Everyone loved her.
Was it her obsession over leeks?
Was it her snow-white fur?
Was it the way her hair shined in the shimmering daylight?
Was it the fact that she was WAY taller than me?
Was it her stupid-but-somehow-cute-dimwittedness?
What WAS it that was so special about my best friend?
This really proved how different we were.
I never understood why people hated me.
I guess it was because I came from the underworld.
Or maybe the fact that I'm mean, hostile, and violent to everybody else.
I don't even KNOW.
Sometimes I wished I was Shori, that way I would know WHY she was so special.
