When working with oil pastels, press a little harder than you normally would, unless you want it to look like a crayon.

When smudging, smudge in circular motions, especially with charcoals. It has a much smoother effect

Aha I've been working on a thousand art projects. I never finish one before moving on to the next.

Remember muscle definition. Arms, for example, aren't straight sticks. They have curves and junk.
Of course, this varies style to style.
The more cartoonish styles are more likely to have less muscle definition, and that's fine!

When colouring/painting, make sure the strokes go in the same direction, unless you planed on making it in alternating directions. This way, it looks a whole lot more neat and overall looks better.
