Background – Stein is the highest ranked meister at the DWMA. He performs surgery on himself to protect himself from his own self madness. He's also a teacher at the DWMA. He develops a small crush on Medusa even though he realised she was a witch long before anyone else did. She envelops the madness in his soul and pulls him into her lair as bait. When she dies though he is brought out of his madness and sent back to the DWMA. In the manga he was thought of murder because of his madness infection and he went to find the real murderer and succeeded in this task.
