Don't Stop Running

Never giving in

Tension, cheering and nerve was being thrown around all over the place.
Josh stood there; he ran his hand through his hair, he then turned to his team who all looked at him with confidence but Josh didn’t feel that way and it was obvious by the look on his face.
“What’s up Josh, you got no hope that we can win” Kate said to Josh seeing his face.
“No I have confidence I was just thinking” he said with a sudden flash back of the doctors saying to him “You can’t be running anymore Josh if you do I’m afraid your going to loose your legs and then well there’s nothing I can do for you”
Josh was risking what he did best now and he knew it was going to end in one way or another and if it ended here Josh was going to do it in a blaze of glory.
He then stood hearing their team being called out “Come on let’s win this” he said with sudden confidence as he walked to the exit to the outside field.
They exited one at a time their names being called one after another “Kate Woodkin, Will Jackson,  Chris Redding” a loud voice call out, with a long pause as Josh walked out then suddenly “and Josh Smith!” he walked out and slowly walked over the track to his teams line.
He then saw Kate at the start line he nodded his head to Chris and Will who were ready to run after her. Out of the blue the gun was fired and Kate and the other team members bolted off the line like lighting. Josh stared in wonder at them then felt a hand on his shoulder.
He turned to see his rival behind him, he then yanked his shoulder forward “What do you want Jake?” he said with frustration,
Jake replied “I just wanted to say good luck because you’re not beating me this year” he said this with confidence and as soon as he did Will had shot off the line “Well first you have to get lead and right now” Josh said and looked at Will “May not happen”.
Suddenly Josh’s confidence went as Will was over taken and Jake burst into laughter and walked off, Josh then looked to see Chris was off but only just keeping up, it looked like Josh had to pull it out again.
He got up to his line and turned his head to see Chris coming in quick and Josh turned and started to jog off the line with his hand behind him. He was ready for what was about to happen.
Then it was on, Josh felt the baton in his hand, he wrapped his fingers around it.
With a massive burst of energy Josh went from his slow jog to fast paced run.
He looked up to see Jake only inches in front of him... but with in seconds didn't see him at all.
He had passed him!
He was in first and had only gone 100 meters out.
Jake wasn't going to let him go easy though and with a evil grin, he swiped Josh's left leg with his foot.
Josh felt his left leg hit his right, making him jump forward and crash to the ground.
"No" He said to him self. "No way" he said to himself once more as he got on all fours and looked up.
This wasn't going to go down hill now Josh was winning and then Jake cheated but no Josh didn't give in, he slowly pushed himself up off the floor and raised his head.
With yet another burst of energy he went off again even faster than before, he was going to win this.
He looked up again to see he was passing the 3rd placer, with an increase in speed he passed him and went to the 2nd placer.
Now it was just him and Jake.
Josh could feel his legs burning and his chest pounding but this wasn't it he was going to win and prove a point.
He burst into a sprint now at the 200 meter line and with that he almost instantly passed Jake who shouted out "NO WAY".
He was so close now he was at the last 100 meters...
It felt like everything was in slow motion when Josh felt a major pain in his right leg.
It sent a shock up his leg and he just collapsed onto the floor in pain, clutching his right leg rolled along the track just 35 meters away from the finish.
Jake ran past him laughing but Josh was in so much pain he couldn't even feel his right leg.
The 2nd place runner stopped just next to him and walked to him slowly.
"A-are you OK?"she asked him gently kneeling beside him.
Josh didn't answer he was nearly crying with the pain.
His team ran to him and quickly tried to get him up.
But Josh tried to them off him saying"I need to....finish the..race"
Kate, Chris and Will looked at each other and just nodded.
They all helped him slowly walk to the finish line;the crowd was just silent, Josh then pushed off and collapsed past the finish line falling to the floor and the crowd went nuts and cheered for him for even with a injury passing the line.
Josh was exhausted and then suddenly everything went silent and dark.
He realized he had passed out.
With wonder to what was going on all he could do...was wait.
