New Years
Andy sat with his laptop beside Samantha, tiredly playing an indie horror game. He was playing a game called Amnesia(I think that's what this game is called) where you're stuck in a car that's broken down in the middle of a forest and there's a monster trying to attack you, and you're trying to get the car started without dying. He sighed, this had been the third time he died by now. He was shutting the power off in the car in the game, jumping a bit upon seeing the main monster in the game. "Ahhh nonono not again-" he grumbled a little as the screen grew darker and there was a jumpscare. Andy shrieked a little at this, then letting out a terrified squeak when the power went out, as well as his laptop shutting off due to it being plugged in.Samantha was lazily watching TV, occasionally glancing over to Andy and chuckling when he died.
She had begun to fall asleep when Andy screamed. She shot up and quickly grabbed for the gun she hides in the sofa.
She looked over to Andy and saw he looked terrified
"Damn, you gave me a heart attack! What's wrong?"
By now, his laptop as fallen on the ground and Andy was hugging his legs to his chest and trembling. His eyes were wide and he just stared at the blank screen of the tv. "I thought I got used to that scare" he whimpered
Samantha looked at the scared boy with empathy
"It's alright. Nothing will hurt you"
She reassured.
She rubbed his back, hoping to calm him down.
"If anything tries, I'll fight them" Samantha jokes, hoping to lighten to mood. Andy looked over at her and quickly hugged her arm, still shaking a little. Samantha pulled Andy into a proper hug, hoping that'd help. Andy tightly hugged Samantha, starting to feel a little better. Samantha pulled away for a second to grab a blanket. She draped it over Andy's shoulders and continued hugging him.
"My tablet works... wanna watch something?"
Andy nodded, cuddling the blanket. Samantha ruffled his purple hair and put her arm around him. "What should we watch until the power comes back on?"
Andy rested his head on her should and shrugged. "I dunno, something not terrifying would be nice"
Samantha laughed. "Okay! How about.... hmmm..." Samantha thought.
"How about Steven Universe?"
Andy nodded, "that sounds good" he smiled, forgetting a little about what had scared him. Samantha stroked his hair and put on an episode. She pulled Andy in her lap and cuddled Andy while wrapped in a blanket. Andy watched silently, growing a little tired before he eventually found himself forcing himself to stay awake. He yawned a little, before closing his eyes and falling asleep.
Samantha was ready to fall asleep herself, When suddenly the TV came back on and lights violently flashed on, startling Samantha which caused her to let out a small yell. Andy jolted awake, latching onto Samantha for dear life, "HHHHHHHHHHHHH-"
After a minute of Samantha fully waking up and shrugging off surprise, she giggled "Which one scared you, me or the lights ha hA"
Andy was shaking a little and then looked up at her. "BOTH" Samantha laughed harder.
"Sorry son" Samantha teased. "Want some tea to calm you down?" Andy frowned a little and huffed. "...yeah.."
"Mhm.." Andy sighed then grabbed a pillow and hugged it. Samantha cooed at how adorable Andy looked. "Almost as cute as his sister" she thought.
She made tea and grabbed scones and brought them to her best friend. "Here you go ya nerd"
Andy took the cup and set it on the coffee table, while nibbling on the scone while he waited for the tea to cool off.
"Feel better?" Samantha asked her friend while he was eating his scone. Andy nodded, a small smile on his face. "Good" Samantha said, ruffling his hair again. Andy giggled a little when Samantha ruffled his hair, then finished eating his scone.
"Well, I'm tired. If you are still scared from the power outage and your game then let me know so I can make fun of you" Samantha said. This translates to, 'you can sleep in my room if you want'.
Andy looked up at her, getting up. "Okay-" he yawned a little, still rather tired. "Good night Andy, don't get too scared, ya dork" Samantha teased before going to bed. Andy looked around a bit, grabbing the blanket and turning off the tv. He hesitantly walked over to Samantha's room, knocking. "Can I sleep in here tonight?" He mumbled a little through the slightly opened door. Samantha saw Andy, and nodded. "Alright get in here ya big baby" She chuckled.
Andy smiled a little, shuffling inside the room and flopping onto the bed beside Samantha. Samantha hugged him and let him cuddle up to her. "Well, see ya next year " She grinned.
Andy cuddled up beside Samantha, then frowned a little, "next year??" He looked up at her, confused. "I'll let that sink in" Samantha chuckled. He laid there for a while, staring at the ceiling trying to remember what Samantha meant by 'next year'.
Samantha tried hard not to laugh hard at his confusion. She decided to let herself sleep and wait for tomorrow.
It had been about ten minutes and Andy decided to give up and sleep. After about five minutes of attempting, his eyes shot open and he sat up. "ITS NEW YEARS HOW DID I MANAGE TO FORGET-"
Samantha glanced at him, and started laughing. Everyone hates her corny jokes, but hate fuels her. Andy jumped a bit at Samantha's laughter, before looking at her. "You made that stupid joke last year" he huffed, smiling a little. She looked at the clock, and saw it was 12:00 AM, January 1st. She went to make another shitty joke but was thinking of a good one. Samantha decided to let the joke go. And saw Andy laying down and staring at the ceiling. "Well, goodnight Andy, have a good New Year" Samantha smiled. Andy looked over at Samantha and laughed a little. "You too." He snuggled up next to her before dozing off.
The two fell sleep in each other's arms, knowing that 2017 would be another great year.
