Chapter 2- Lies and Attitude

Ok ok I know that sounds bad.
I haven't told my friends I have superpowers.
But I know as soon as I do I'll be buried with unanswerable questions and people coming to me so I could do "tricks"
"Throw a water ball at Josh!"
"Make a giant dragon!"
Stuff like that would haunt me forevermore.
After all, Nova had a big mouth, and Nathan told her EVERYTHING.
No doubt I would be caught dead if I told either of them.
And so, for the sake of not being stuck full of needles and put in a museum as 'the boy who could move water', I remained quiet. Which was harder than you think.
These people were persuasive.
"Hey blake, why do you always go to the water?" Nova asked one day.
"Well, I, um..."
"Yeah, whats up man?" Nathan chimed in, smiling.
"I-"
"Tell us Blake! Or else I'll tickle it out of you."
"I-I don't know I just like the water ok?"
"Are you sure?" Nathan smirked.
"Yes!"
"Hmmm I think Blakes got a secret GIRLFRIEND he's not telling us about."
I went pink.
"Nova!?"
They both laughed at my reaction. I crossed my arms and looked at the floor.
"It's not funny."
"So whos the lucky girl?"
"There's no girl..." I mumbled.
"Buh-LAKE! You never told us you were gay!" Nova burst out. Nathan giggled.
"I'm not gay!"
"UH HUH SURE."
"Shut up..."
"Oooooh I think we got him mad." Nathan poked me.
"Well... No."
"Ok then, that's a relief. But please tell us what's going on. I can tell you spend so much time there because of your face. It's got sunburn on it."
I touched my face and it felt hot, but I wasn't sure if it was from the embarrassment or from actual sunburn. I shrugged.
"I just like being by the water, that's all."
"You should take us there sometime. You know, show us what's so special about staring at the water for a few hours."
I was about to make a comment but I gave up. They would only tease me.
Not like I didn't like the teasing, but a twin double tease down was a bit too much for any one person.
"Sure I guess."
"Yay! Ok then first thing after lunch tomorrow, got it?"
I smiled. Why the heck not.

I strummed my pencil against my binder, my head resting on my arm while I waited the class out.
My teacher, Mr.Nefolian, droned on about math. His voice was deep and robotic, which made it easy for you to zone out.
I tried, I really tried, to keep my concentration. But I felt myself slipping under the fantastical images of my daydreams...
"-Blake Anderson."
"Huh?" I sat up, a mark on my cheek left by my arm. The class giggled.
"I said, can you answer the question?"
I blinked, embarrassed, and took a good look at the question.
Thank god I had went ahead of the class. I sighed a breath of relief and stood up.
"I can. The answer is 0."
"And how did you find out this answer?"
"Because the entire equation cancels itself out. May I sit down?"
The teachers eyes narrowed.
"Yes, but I'll see you after class. Your attitude needs some checking."
I was tempted to say something, lash out, but I refrained. This teacher always annoyed me.
"Fine then."
As I sat down, my arms crossed, every bit of water in the room trembled for a split second. Satisfied, I allowed myself a smile.
I guess some things never grow old.
